'Too Rough' Was Originaly Offerd 2 Joyce Kennedy? Check This,,

I've always wanted to know what song did Joyce turn down. Here's a transcript from an UPTOWN article:

"Too Rough" is an uptempo pop effort about a woman who carries her money in her garter belt with a pistol. The men all want to take her out, but her only aim is to take their money, pride, and personality. The song was originaly offered to Joyce Kennedy, formerly of Mother’s Finest. She turned it down, commenting, "I don’t think it’s some of Prince's best work. The hook and the vocal lead are good, but the rest of the song... It’s real strange. it was later offered to Jill Jones."

Not originally, but subsequently. Reread the article to which you are referring (Uptown #39) or Uptown's 'Turn It Up 2.0'.

The song is said to have originated from the 'Dirty Mind' era and is believed to have been tried out with Alexander O'Neal (prior to The Time's first album). It is also believed to have been considered for The Family, and then for Jill Jones' eponymously-titled album (when it was recorded with work by Eric Leeds). TIU 2.0 suggests it was only then that it was offered to and rejected by Joyce Kennedy.
