Rolling Stone left Prince off BEST LIVE ACT LIST !!

Hey you guys, can you believe Rolling Stone's top 10 best live acts did not include Prince?! WTF!

The top ten are:
1. U2
2. RADIOHEAD
3. BON JOVI
4. DAVE MATTHEWS BAND
5. TORI AMOS
6. PHISH
7. METALLICA
8. PJ HARVEY
9. NINE INCH NAIL
10. GUNS N' ROSES

This is a joke.

Here's a link to a short Sony article:
http://www.musiclub.sonys...emId=26802

I don't have the Rolling STone's article, maybe someone can find and link it.

I heard the same thing. Shoulda been higher, but the list is very "rock" centric so I'm impressed he made it at all.

I love GNR but Axl's wannabe version of GNR has no business on this list. Maybe 15 years ago, but not now.

It's Rolling Stone magazine for fuck's sake. They lost their credibility years ago. Who cares if Prince ain't on one of their lists. He's better off this way.

1. That isn't Rolling Stone's list but rather the results of a Rolling Stone internet poll.

2. Most of the artists on that list deserve to be on it.

3. Prince did place #13, IIRC.

4. Bon Jovi at #3 kills any credibility for that poll.

.
Oh, I hadn't heard about an extended list of 20. Thanx.

I just didn't want Prince to be overlooked. I remember voting for this. It's well known that Prince is a supreme live performer. I've heard many reviewers acknowledge it.

He still should be higher considering some on the list.

All cool points.
I totally didn't know that Prince was further down on this list. Please ignore this thread.

I know, I know. I read a short story on SonyMusicClub that only listed the top 10 and I was outraged. Now, I just feel really stupid, but I can't make this thread go away smile

Don't feel stupid SynthiaRose. Lets just be happy that Prince made the list. Although, most of these types of lists are silly anyway, but as Prince fans we always get a kick out of seeing him included instead of excluded (as usual).

Radio definitely does deserve to be on this list, but what is the big fucking deal about U2? Who the fuck keeps thinking they're the best of the best? They're not that amazing! Where's James Brown?

I definitely disagree with putting Metallica, Bon Jovi, and Dave Matthews on that list. The others, besides U2 and Radiohead, I have not seen a live performance of, so I can't say. I've heard Phish is really amazing.

And damn, KISS isn't even on there, the people everyone praise as live rock Gods.

Has James Brown toured recently? As I understand it the list was limited to acts who'd toured in the past few years.

Never mind..

s-rose...no need to apologize.
to be to honest with you-you have to be suspicious with
list coming from rock magazines anyway.

i say this-even though i like a lot of rock artists
(mostly old school ones,i might add) but over the years
when i've read Rolling sTONE and they've had their fans
pick fave artist of any year...the fans view tends to be
very SHort-sighted and narrow-minded.

my memory tells me the only year prince was ranked real
HIGH by the fans who write to Rolling stone was the year
of PURPlE Rain. when everybody LOVED him!

remember before these year MJ was GOD in this mag and all
the media,too!

some of the artist on the list DO deserve to be there...
but very few of them are as accomplished a LIve performer
as PRINCE.

this comment is coming from someone (myself) who seen quite
a few of the super STARS and groups who came before prince
(i saw SLy in his hey-day..when larry was with him as well
as JB when he was GOOD)

its alright s-rose.
15 i still low for prince.

but consider the source.
peace & love (youngca)

oh one side note,,,the best LIVE show i saw last year might
have been from a definite OLD school dude-paul mccartney.

he was THAT good. (no he can't touch p athletically and
visual...he's a good 14 years older!...but he rocked his
old ass off !
i didn't see p this time...but judging by the ONA cd i would
have ranked him up there with Mccartney.
(some people say the stones were the BEST show last year...
but that's another story for another thread!)

p is still in my top 3 ...best performers i ever seen!

Bon fucking Jovi!? There goes the credibility of who ever whipped this one up...

As much as I love Radiohead (And I absolutely LOVE them), nothing I have ever heard from them live has ever impressed me. In fact, I'll just say it, they sound like SHIT live.

I saw Phish live in 99, and they sucked ass too. Their shows are just a reason for people who were too young to be around for the Dead, to find a reason to run around like hippies and OD.

u2 I gotta give props to though, they are fantastic live. I think some people have a hard time giving them props these days because they've been going strong for so long, they're defying the typical path of a musician or group who loses their fame and sinks into obscurity.

Hey friends!

just 4get about such stupid polls. They have nothing 2 do with reality...

1. U2 - good workmanship on stage, but no. 1?
2. RADIOHEAD - ok
3. BON JOVI - isn't this a teenager band (meanwhile)
4. DAVE MATTHEWS BAND - dunno
5. TORI AMOS - dunno
6. PHISH - kick ass OK!
7. METALLICA - may be good
8. PJ HARVEY - dunno
9. NINE INCH NAIL - dunno
10. GUNS N' ROSES - do they still exist? when did they perform last??

Where is MJ? I really don't like him, but everybody claimed that he is the best of the best, so he should be on that list, right? In my opinion, even if I hate him, if he is not on that list it means that this poll is bullshit...

Where is Pink Floyd?
Where is James Brown?
Where is Led Zeppelin? - if GNR is on the list, they should be as well...
Where is Frank Zappa? if GNR is on the list, he should be as well...

Does anyone know Keziah Jones - that is my number 2, right after Prince...

Where is etc. etc. ???

Pls. ignore such polls, they really mean nothing!
I stopped reading such magazines long time ago, because they are polluted by the marketing machinery of record companies. I know, Mr. Prince does take a lot of money from us, too. But at least I know where my money is going and it supports the artist somehow. So, I believe, that I rather should give my money to the artist and not some stupid CEO.
