It was a double LP, (single CD, which wasn't the dominant format at the time) - so think of it as a nine track Prince album, and a 2nd LP of related artists stuff.

The core of the Prince stuff is great, and the related artists stuff is fun too, The Time tracks from the unreleased Corporate World, plus Mavis Staples and a nice pop song from the George Michael-esque Tevin Campbell.

Bear in mind that Graffiti Bridge was original envisaged as the follow-up to Sign O' The Times, but the album and film went through a series of changes that left the original idea raped and pilaged - but within that there is much to love.

The released album is basically a collection of older tracks with a couple of new songs tagged on (NPG and Theives).

Overall its a pretty good album and has two of his best songs (The question of u & Joy in repitition), the rest is pretty good, you might want to skip 'shake', disbelief
Just stay FAR away from the movie

Take an ice-pick and carefully scratch out the title track (do this from the label side). I did it and it makes for a fantastic Cd. One of his best.

Don't listen to the haters.

I consider GB like a greatest unreleased hits album. It's wild to think that Prince had that rocker Funkateer look then went glitsy with Diamonds & Pearls just a year later.

I do wish it would of contained Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic tracks and be it a Sign and/or Lovesexy continutation project, which in a way it was.

It was post Lovesexy in a way, skipping Batman.

Minus the title track Graffiti Bridge is a great album. nod

Still saying that, 'Still Would Stand All Time' shoulda been the last song on the album.

Okay I know am I going to be lambasted for this, but I am sorry, Grafitti Bridge SUCKED! When I was a teenager and completely blinded by my obsessive love for Prince, I actually defended friends who dogged the film. However, now that I've reached the age of reason, I can honestly admit to myself and others that this film was definitely a wrong turn for Prince.

That said, this soundtrack did house several splendid songs. "We Can Funk" is sexy and laced with a horny yearning that is so pure and raw that it at times leaves me speechless. The lines "I could tell you things to get you excited. I could play with your mind. But you'd probably say that I was a liar so I won't waster you time." are classic Prince at his sexiest. Then you have "Joy In Repetition" that is one of the most clever songs lyrically that I've heard. He paints a beautiful portrait on this one. Finally "Question Of You" is sheer perfection! To this day, I have NEVER heard a song like this. The opening line - "So what is the answer to the question of you?" says it all, then when he sings "...shall I remain upright or get down and cry" I just lose it. These three songs definitely stand out on this album.

Oh Prince where are you. I know you still have it in you...
perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

'GB' has it's moments, but overall,it is a very inconsistent album.Too often,on this record,a very good song is followed by a mediocre song. For example, the album starts off with an inspired rock song ("Can't Stop This Feeling I Got") but it is followed by a lame R&B number ("New Power Generation").The whole album is like that...a really powerful song ("Thieves In The Temple") is followed by a crappy, forgettable track ("The Latest Fashion").

But,once you weed out the bad songs,it's smooth sailing all the way."We Can Funk" and "Shake!" are strong songs, and the gospel-flavored "Still Would Stand All Time" should have become a new Prince classic. The album is a mixed bag,but the high points make it all worthwhile.

Rolling Stone gave this album 4.5 stars (near Classic).

Davideye you are right on the money .I think that it should have been released as 3 albums similar to the Purple Rain albums. If you get the Bridge album you must get Pandemonium by the Time which is my 2nd favorite Time album.
