I can def see why WB neva released this song. This song and the ever so-commercial Purple Rain LP neva match and plus its a "bit out there" and very twisted, sick and dark.

However, I love it! The edited version sounds so surfaced IMO but this one really does it 4 me. I love its end

Nah, the critics would have fried him for the weird lyrics of that song. It is best that it was shortened; but they should have had a 12 inch version for us fanatics.

But I have to say Prince did make the right choice
editing it down for the album. The version originally
on Purple Rain had already been edited down to about
7:33 anyway, before it was edited further to make
room for Take Me With U. So even if Take Me With U
had been left off the album we still wouldn't have
had the full 12+ minute version.

It is a shame that it never surfaced on 12" though.
It would have been great if there'd been a 12" for
Take Me With U with the extended version of Computer
Blue on the b-side!

About time someone decided to talk about this. I have so so many friends who never gave P a chance. Then I play the uncut Computer Blue for them, with the disclaimer "forget every other prince song you ever heard and just listen to this one." Never fails. The uncut CB shows a very "out there" side of P that rarely surfaced on wax. There's 3 long versions out there, the common "hallway speech" one, a similar version but with just music where the speech would be, and what I figure must be the original demo (around 12 mins long, real raw sounding vocals and an endless jam following it.) ... I've said a million times "why not a 12 inch release?"

The demo is about 13:29. Different vocals & music than the 12:00 minute version.
