Yeah,I know it's all wishful thinking but hey,a guy can dream,right?

I've mentioned it before, but I'll bring it up again...
WB has been doing NICE 2-disc reissues of some of their films over the past couple of years. Wouldn't it be nice if they decided to do a 20th anniversary 2 disc re-release of Purple Rain next year? I'd like to see a nice widescreen presentation of the film (with kicking sound too, of course). It would be highly unlikely that Prince would actually contribute to any new materials such as commentaries or documentaries but I'm sure some of the "associates" would be up for a paycheck and would contribute. Disc two could contain any deleted scenes that might be around as well as all of the Purple Rain associated music videos. I also think that the "Prince & The Revolution Live" video, in its entirety, should be a disc two supplement. Who but diehard fans would buy an 80's Prince concert film on its own these days anyway, so they might as well include it as part of the Purple Rain package. Awards show footage from the PR era would be nice too. Since PR was one of WB's first DVD releases, they obviously consider it an important piece of their back catalog. This was an important film of it's time and a significant document of early/mid 80's pop culture. It really deserves a nice release.

As far as the other films go - I'd love to see them on DVD, but I doubt they could justify putting a whole lot of resources into creating them. It would be nice to have a widescreen presentation, trailers and associated videos for each of the films.

And if there were to be any sort of box set, SOTT wouldn't likely be included with the other films. As far as I know, WB has no rights to it. The video rights are with Universal, as far as I know.

Isn't it sad to think that,next year will be the 20th Anniversary of 'Purple Rain' but we probably won't get anything special to commemorate it (like a re-mastered CD with bonus tracks,or a 2-disc DVD set with bonus footage,commentary,etc).

It's true that alot of shit gets released on DVD, one more shouldn't matter.

I'd like to see a 20th Anniversary edition of Purple Rain though.I suspect it won't happen.

I would think that if they were already out on Laser disc that the transfer would not be very hard to do. Or just run the laser disc through the amp and record onto dvd-r

I hooked up with Liz Jones (then editor of The Sunday Times, and writer of 'Slave To The Rhythm') who pointed me in the right directions, sent me research materials, and tapped me up with phone numbers of people I should talk 2.
A couple of these people were at Warners, who had helped her out on her book. They had hardly kept a thing. Most promotional materials had been trashed after he left, no further copies of any of the promo videos were no longer available - it was as much use as banging my head against a wall
So 2 say that they consider it an important piece of their catalogue...nah.
It will probably be re-released at some point, but as someone else has stated here - next year will more than likely see NOTHING materialise. I bought the American version of the DVD just so I could have the trailer with those few scintillating snippets of outtakes - the English version has sweet F.A.
PS: and Warner Bros - we HATE your shit card DVD packacking!
