When Doves Cry is a mutherfocking masterpiece! Every time I play this cut, this fact washes over me like purple tidal wave. I was watching that VH1 show about the greatest songs eer and Price just kept popping up. Little Red Corvette and Nothing Compers 2 U were included, of course. And while i give no credibility to the producrs of the list, I do ackowledge that they can be right once in a while. The inclusion of When Doves Cry as one of the immortal smashes of all times is undeniable.

I taped the whole countdown last night and watching it right now...indeed, every time I hear the beginning of When Doves Cry, I still get the chills-- I remembered hearing it for the first time back in the mid-80's (before I was a Prince fan) and I said, "What the heck is that??" I was hooked since!!  "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

When this song came out, only the college station played it at first. It was SO underground and cool as shit and stuff, and then, poof, it became legendary.

This may very well be Princes worse song. It needs bass, and a marimba section. No neat f words and stuff. It should have had some rap on it. With birds squaking in the background. Applonia should have sang it instead of P. Tito would have made a better drum loop. Hail Tito

i have loved this song for as long as i can remember, and when i became a prince fan this year was so excited, and actually not supirsed, to find oout it was a prince song even people i know who dont like prince can admit this song rules. | |
