Any fans of the For You album here?

I know most of you seem to rate it pretty low whenever there's an album poll on the org...

However, I love this album and never seem to get tired of hearing it (unlikely some of his more popular stuff!)

So, anybody prepared to admit it's one of their favourites too?

For U is deffinatly one of my faves. It is the start of his career, and he opens the best way any1 can. And IMO he has kept his promis.

I like it a lot. I listen to it less than I should.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!.. A lot of my friends ask me, if you HAD to pick out just ONE album (Prince's albums) which one would u choose? I've always said you can't choose something like that, since all of Prince's songs/albums are great.. but anyway.. if I had to pick one out.. I'd probably go for FOR YOU, its such a nice album, and WOW it was his first?!?! Well it does seem like a lot of people dont think much of it.. a shame really, coz its pretty good!

-At the age o' 20 and he simply played completly every-lil'-thang in that record. That alone should give him the credit.

-I read an interview from 1981 where says that he was sleepy and tired all the time during the recording of the LP. Thats why it sounds like a mellow record.

-Plus its a simple record, Prince wasn't trying to be hip or proving anything.

baby is a great song...i love the simplicity of it

When I first got this album, I played So Blue and Soft and Wet over and over and over again.


I like the playfulness and boldness of "Soft." It was really risque for its time.

And I like the melancholy and delivery of So Blue.

For You as an album where the whole is truly greater than the sum of its parts. Track by track it isn't really a strong album but as whole plays really well. I think it's a better album than the subsequent Prince album even though that set contains I Feel For You, Bambi, I wanna be your lover, Sexy Dancer, WYWTMSB. For You just flows..

It's OK i guess, i tend to think of 'Prince' as his first album though.I can't explain why though, perhaps it's cause there's no Princebonics in the title or maybe i just don't listen to it enough.

I love that album.

Love it! Definitely show's Prince's sweet, sensitive side.

it's even tastier on vinyl.
