Prince Grammys here goes that thread again.
i didn't know that Prince was nominated for Eye Hate U (Best R&B vocal performance) and The Gold Experience was nominated for Best R&B album. it was 1996. does anyone have a full list of his Grammy noms? http://www.cnn.com/SHOWBI..._list.html

There was alot of momentum in 1995 with 'The Gold Experience' and under normal circumstances, that album would have been a multi-platinum smash for Prince. However,he was feuding with Warners, refusing to hand over a video for "Eye Hate U" and the project suffered.Still,it was nice to see the Grammy folks paying attention.

Assuming that Prince had cooperated with Warners and they agreed to release four singles from this album, what four songs would you have chosen? Here's my list... ***"Eye Hate U"---a strong R&B hit that got alot of airplay even without a video. ***"319"---a sexy rock/pop track that would have appealed to the same audience that took "Cream" to Number One a few years earlier. ***"Now"---tailor-made for the clubs, this funky, loud number would have had everybody rushing to the floor. ***"Gold"---finally,release the strong title track as a single, with an effective,big-budget video [This message was edited Mon Jun 23 4:39:07 PDT 2003 by DavidEye]

Gold as the lead single - it goes str8 to pop radio. Princer makes a triumphant anthemic return. 2. Shhh - goes str8 to R&B radio with an edit cuz it is long 3. Dolphin - to pop radio 4. Eye Hate U - of course this all considering if the album is still alive by this point this goes to R&B radio again. i seem to remember that Prince was all over radio formats in the 90s. didn't he have a number one with Theives in the Temple on R&B? in any case, it would be silly to think of anything else to do with his music becuz this is what was happening. the record company was promoting him on pop and r&b stations. TMBGITW was already a hit so that should've added to TGE's life span.

' Hate U', 'Gold' and 'TMBGITW' were good enough single choices, but P should've released 'Endorphinmachine' - it's as simple as that. Anyway I would have had it like this: 1. Hate U
2. Endorphinmachine 3. 319 4. Gold

well, he did release Gold - and it bombed.
What I wonder is what would have happened had he released the Gold Experience a year earlier as he tried to do. TMBGITW was the leadoff single. I believe Dolphin was going to be the second single. btw: prince was robbed in the grammy award that year - his vocal work on I hate U was by far better than the winner's vocal work. The winning song (I forget now what it was) won because it was the bigger hit.

I really think Prince should cancelled the 'Come' album (which really wasn't all that great anyway) and instead released 'TGE' in the summer of '94.At this early stage, the album featured strong songs like "Interactive","Acknowledge Me" and "Days Of Wild" and in 1994,this album could have been a blockbuster.Releasing it over a year later forced Prince to tinker with the songs,over-produce some songs, remove certain tracks and replace them with newer but less impressive songs like "P Control".

TGE would have had a longer shelf life if Beautiful Girl was the lead single and then Dolphin or Shhh. too bad.

Yeah,it was unfortunate that the 'TGE' CD had to be delayed over a year. That's why I say that Prince should have cancelled 'Come' (don't worry,we still would have gotten these songs on bootlegs...lol) and released the superior 'Gold Experience' instead. If 'TGE' had came out in summer 1994,it would have been following a huge Top 10 smash ("TMBGITW") and the momentum would have been on it's side.He could have quickly followed it up with a strong second single ("Eye Hate U" or "319"),some killer videos and everything would have been cool.By the time it finally came out in fall 1995,"TMBGITW" was old news and many of us had been listening to the other tunes all year long (thanks to bootlegs).

aren't most of his albums delayed by a year anyway? i believe the songs on any album at any given time are usually a year old by the time the public...sorry...Prince fans get them.
