Happy 14th birthday Batman album!!!

The Batman soundtrack was released on June 20, 1989 - 14 years ago today.

Looking back now, what are your thoughts on the album?

For me, this is the album that got me into Prince. I was 12, loved comic books, and was excited to get anything connected with the Batman movie. Within a year or so, I stopped reading comic books and owned pretty much everything Prince had done...

So it holds fond memories. As a 12-year-old I listened to it almost every night as I was falling asleep. Now I hate listening to music when I'm falling asleep, and yet I put Batman on when my fiancee was away, fell asleep before The Arms Of Orion ended, and slept like a baby...

I remember my grandparents were visiting from Florida and my grandfather took me to get while we were out putting flowers on my great grandparents graves. It cost me exactly $9.00 on cassette at the Sam Goody store at Wayne Hills Mall in Wayne New Jersey.

Batman was the first album my brother-in-law owned of Prince, which got him into Prince real quick. Partyman was my favorite song of the first mix tape he gave me, which got me into Prince real quick.

Nothing more needs to be said.

I remember this being released. It's hard to dig up the
memories heheh, but what I can remember is seeing those
limited edition blackboxes on the store shelves.

I thought they were the coolest thing you could ever
own heheh. Well, I was only 11 yrs old at the time.

But I managed to save enough money to buy the regular
batman album and years later bought the circular file.

Funny enough, I hardly ever listen to the album at all
now, but I do listen quite a lot to the single remixes
and 12" versions [The Future/Partyman/Electric Chair &
Scandalous].

This album signalled the end of the genius that was Prince and the beginning of his new ass kissing direction in music...ie basically find a trend then follow it hence thats why most of his albums post 1989 sound more dated than the albums that proceeded that year. IMO one of his worst three albums.

14 years -- that's crazy. Hard 2 believe. I've been a fan since "1999" but "Batman" is the first album that I consciously remember anticipating the release date and buying on Day 1.

It also takes me back to D.C., because I was doing a summer internship at the time. Ahh... to be 18 and in a new city.

Thanks 4 the memories!!!
let me come over it's a beautiful day to play with you in the dark

Lemon Crush hit me like a sledgehammer. I simply loved it and still do. It was a friend of mine who played it for me and we then went on to listen to Prince through the whole night. After that I was completely hooked. I had never heard such beautiful and complex music before and I havenĀ“t since either. Such a shame to discover Prince just when he was about to lose his golden touch.
