Dang, wouldn't be heaven on earth if WB re-issued this LP with all these songs "remastered" including a never-b4-seen Photoes booklet like Sony did with MJ's LP? Also, it would've been cool if they included demos(I wish I could hear LCD & LPWM demos nod).

I would add the outtake version of Something in the Water & the remix of Little Red Corvette , plus all the 1999 videos(including Let's Pretnd Were Married) as a seperate DVD.

15.Do Yourself A Favor

This would rather be on "Controversy"

19.Purple Music

This was never intended for "1999"... IIRC this was to be a one-off club 12" after "1999"...

20.Feel U Up

Don't forget it segues into the far superior original version of "Irresistible Bitch", can't leave that one out...

***B-Sides:
1.Irrisistable Bitch
2.How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore
3.Horny Toad

And the Dance Remix of "Little Red Corvette"

This would indeed be a dream come true for "1999" fanatics like myself... but it'll never happen...

Purple Music is practically early House, it has a lot of similarities to early House stuff like Chip-E.

I always thought it a shame that Prince didn't expound on his electro leanings on 1999.

Yes they sound very similar...
I had a talk with a retired WB dude some years ago who gave me a couple of testpressings and abandoned 12" projects from back in the '80's, which he used to collect, and to my very big surprise Prince's "Purple Music" was one of them...
And IIRC he told me that they wanted to press it in limited quantities for club use only...
But Prince changed his mind and aborted it...
It could be that I'm confusing it with another project but I'm pretty certain it was the "Purple Music" 12"...

Can you recall whether that version of 'Purple Music' was either #1 or #2?

Thanks.

Which would be version #1 and which would be version #2?
With version #1 I guess you're refering to the demo version and version #2 the one with added guitars and vocals?

Anyhow I'm looking at the label now and it says "Prince" "Purple Music" 10:56 on a WB logo, it's exactly the same as the finished version i.e. version #2...
The B-side is the same...

This hasn't got a flow...
He should release the "Camille" album remastered even though everything sans "Rebirth Of The Flesh" has been released... That album has got a kickass flow...
And then the 2nd configuration of "Dream Factory" remastered... That would own man... But people will be fucking on this since the majority of the material on this has already been released...

Oh, that's fabulous! So you actually have a vinyl WB pressing of that record, huh? Hang on to that little treasure!

I could be wrong, but judging by the time estimate you've given above, it seems you might actually be referring to 'Purple Music' #1, which is the longest known studio version of that track, this one's a little rarer.

Version #2, which clocks in at 10:39, on the other hand, is the one circulating on boots like 'Cosmos' & 'The Work', vol.1, and the one most people are familiar with.

Incidentally, I would love to hear an instrumental studio version of 'Purple Music' but haven't come across one so far.

I'm not a bootleg collector so I don't know which version is circulating on boots, but I bet it's the 12" version...
If the quality is "perfect" on the boots then it's highly possible that it came from one of these 12"'s...
I just put the 12" on and timed it, it clocks in at 10:41 with exactly 15 seconds blank space at the end...
The version on the 12" is the finished version...
I do have the demo on a disc which clocks in at about 10:46 and is slightly different...

music

Purple Music

CHORUS:
Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
Purple music does the same 2 my brain
And I'm high, so high

Don't need no cymbals, no saxophone
Just need 2 find me a style of my own
And I'm high, so high

Some people can't understand
Just bein' inside a church don't make a righteous man
U're high, so high

In time we all die, all music gone
So we better try our best 2 get along
And get high, so high, oh

Ain't got no theory, ain't got no rules
I just let the purple music tell my body what 2 do
And I'm high, so high

Every subject, any key
Purple music can't be judged, it happens naturally
It's alright, alright, oh

We'll find a serpent 2 sacrifice
We'll make a wish and then we'll visit purple paradise
We'll get high, yes we will, so high

CHORUS

Next page ...

Don't want reaction, I just want the act
It's easier 2 give love than it is 2 give it back
Cuz I'm high, so high

Oh, oh, oh

No reefer, don't need cocaine
Purple music does the same 2 my brain
And I'm high, oh

Don't need no cymbals, no saxophone
I just need 2 find me a style of my own
And I'm high, oh

I'd love some

I'm high, so high

CHORUS

We'll find a sacrifice
2 get some purple paradise
So nice, purple paradise is so nice
Yeah!

Baby, baby, I say, I say, I say
Oh, oh, oh yeah, oh yeah

If U understand my color
Put your hand in your crotch

No, no, no, no, no, yes!

CHORUS

Don't need no cymbals, no saxophone
I just need 2 find me a style of my own
And I'm high, so high

Some people can't understand
Just bein' inside a church don't make a righteous man
And U're high

U got 2 be high

In time we all die, all music gone
So we better try 2 get along
And get high, so high

All get high

I ain't got no theory, I ain't got no rules

Every subject, any key
Purple music can't be judged, it happens naturally
Ain't it alright?

Ain't it alright?
Don't try 2 fight it

It's time 4 your morning bath, sir
What would U like 2 bathe in this morning?
With all due respect sir, I think that it ..
I think that it might ..
Oh, oh no
I don't want 2 play anymore {x2}

Purple music does things 2 my brain and I'm high
Step on it
That's right
Drive, U idiot
Faster, faster!

Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
Purple music does the same 2 my brain
And I'm high, oh yeah

Don't need no cymbals, no saxophone
