Well, how about Pearl Jam? What they're doing on their current tour makes ONA Live look like gradeschool.
They record each show and mix it down immediately. After the gig, you go to a special website and order a live double-CD from the show you saw or any other show on the tour. Once you pay for it, they email you MP3s of the rough mix to tide you over until the finished CDs come a couple weeks later. Instead of complaining about bootleggers, Pearl Jam did something about it, offering their fans a much better product. They've sold hundreds of thousands of these things. The band website features tour photos, setlists, gear, etc. Now that's the way to do it.

NOt every artist should flood the market with live recordings like that. The is the sure way to saturate even the diehard fan base with recordings that the extremely small minority will faithfully buy.
If Prince did this for a membership fee, there would be crybabies complainging about the fact that it isnt new studio material - just the same old concerts that they already paid money to see.

I'm impressed with what Metallica is doing (with their website, not their latest album). However, if you happen to buy their latest CD you'll get a password to view tonnes of past concert footage, pictures, etc.

Nobody would complain if he did this... we've been requesting it for years. All the haters like me would line up to kiss his boot and pray at the Kingdom if we could buy soundboard concert CDs (especially of aftershows, the Celebration, etc.) from NPGMC! No Candy 4 Me

Clear Channel is supposed to start selling live CDs immediately after the concert is over at their venues. I don't know how it's possible, but they're planning it. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
