OK, here it is. Since a lot of people have been asking after rarities and how to spot fakes I thought posting this list here might help a lot of individuals. This list in question is the old Prince outtake discography by SABOTAGE from the years 1998-2000. The list was apparently removed from the Stylecipation site as they made some changes (at least I wasn't able to access it at the new site). It covers chronologically most of the circulating outtakes by Prince and tracks recorded in association with related artists, as well as alternate versions (unedited or reworked) of released songs. I took the liberty of adding a few titles that are known to exist - titles that weren't included in this list by the members of Sabotage themselves - and otherwise slightly modificating the list. So even though it's not by no means totally exclusive it does offer enormous amount of help when tracking down circulating material. So snatch it up, keep it on your hard drive and check it for your reference once in a while.

If you want to add something to this list please add a reply to the thread. Every piece of information of AVAILABLE outtakes will be warmly appreciated. However posting titles of fake songs is not welcomed - do not post unless you're absolutely certain that the track in question IS something recorded by Prince. A lot of the titles found on collections like "The Work" are confirmed fakes and should be eliminated from circulation. Also note that various titles appear under different names on some instances (i.e. there doesn't exist an instrumental called "Lust U Always" - the track in question is most likely called "Divinity").

And yes, remember that in some parts of the world (including The United States) bootleg recordings are illegal and can lead to legal actions - most likely to physical destruction of the offending item.

Just to be accurate, the song "I hurt myself" (from the 1985 sessions) is not an original Prince song. The real title is "Baby Baby Baby". I don't know who wrote it, but I do know that Aretha Franklin recorded her version during her Atlantic years (check out her "Queen Of Soul- Atlantic recordings").

I have two versions of "I Wonder". One clocks in about 3:31, the other 4:37 I think

Have any of you ever heard the Vanity 6 outtakes? There were many songs that were left off their first album ("I Need A Man","Pizza","Moral Majority" and a version of "Extra Lovable" with Vanity singing).I already have the outtakes from their planned second album ("Vibrator","Sex Shooter","Wet Dream Cousin"),but I'd love to hear those earlier tracks from 1981/82.

A few other tracks I've heard about are "Harder Babe" and "Come On Now Children".Somehow,I think these are fakes.

I think I've got 2 to add to ure lists.

Mary Don't You Weep and Mama. I can't see them on either of those huge lists, but knowing my luck I'm probably calling them by the wrong name.

Mary Dont U Weep actually starts out with the first two lines from A Case Of U and then takes a slight shift uptempo, towards the end of the song he starts singing something from another finished song, though I can't place which one it is.
I think Mama must have been recorded during the same session, cos it sounds similar to Mary.

Anyone got any idea?

I've just given your list a glance and I feel compelled to make the following contribution to it:

First of all, there's no such thing as a 10:52 instrumental from the 1982 sessions called 'Divinity'.
Most likely, it is 'Lust U Always [instrumental]' from 1984, which is 10:27 in length, approximately. It was already further down on your list.

There is no 1983 Prince studio version of 'A Case Of You', unless of course you are referring to either his Purple Rain era rehearsal or live renditions of that song.

As for 'Electric Intercourse' - "live from 3rd August '83, First Avenue", Per Nilsen's Turn It Up 0.2's info on this particular recording is slightly misleading, since the circulating version of this track is in fact the "embellished" rehearsal version, not the live version (note that there is no crowd noise in the circulating version. Also, Prince's disctinctive little asides to Wendy as well as other spontaneous vocal affectations are missing from the live version that most of us are so familiar with. This is because they were a feature only of the rehearsal performance of this song, as opposed to the live August 3rd '83 version)

Also, a word about rehearsal versions:
If you're going to list rehearsal versions of otherwise unavailable tracks, like 'Billy' and 'Electric Man', then I would suggest you go the extra mile and also list the 1982-83 piano sessions which include 'Piano Inprovisations', 'There's No Telling What I Might Do', and 'Cold Coffee and Cocaine'. Also, 'White Girls', 'Gotta Shake This Feeling [Purple Rain' with ad-libbed lyrics]', 'Our Destiny' and 'Roadhouse Garden', to name but a few.

As for the 'Go' rehearsal, there's an excerpt of the studio recording of 'Go' already circulating amongst collectors.

However, I did notice you appear to be missing a few outtakes, particularly from the 'Lovesexy' era, namely stuff like:

Yeah, it sounds a bit too rough though to be full-studio, however demos can sound like rehearsals anyway. Think of Player, which is just a few tracks and no post-production.

Yes, that track should be referred to as Divinity until we get some form of verification. the year on the list is just an estimate. The instrumental on the 84 list refers to Climax, or whatever it is supposed to be titled. Could be nothing...

I made my 28 cd-r box according to Turn it Up 2.0, you should all get that book. Very detailed and cleans up your boot collection a lot. I know I still miss some songs, but they are few... As for Wouldn't you love 2 love me, That 1987 version is on my list. And the intermission from 1988, I do not consider that an outtake, same goes for other concert intros and intermissions.
