777-9311 and Jesse's Free World

They say 777 is Princes funkiest. Did Jesses Fre World outfunk Get It Up or 777? Free World has that heavy bottom that was at the ending sconds coda of Junbgle Love which outfunks a lot. I think the funk of Fre World makes folks get up more (proven last summer). That is just one litmus test

Free World is more of a party song, no doubt. With the heavy chanting, cool percussion and that aforementioned bassline, I gotta go with that one. (I LOVE ME some 777-9311, but Free World snagged me after the first listen.)

I first heard Free World on DC's WKYS (back in the Donnie Simpson days of the 1980s). A very cool station. So cool, they even played the vamp and Jesse's ending, BLUE question... omg

Nah, the cowbell on Free World ruins it for me; as do the lyrics... dunno but I can't really sing along to goin out and buyin a gun and shootin ppl for fun without feelin awkward.

Be Your Man has a more interesting bass line for me... and it's the bass of 777-9311 and keyboard/synth horns of Get It Up that can't be touched.

Unh, I forgot about "go out and buy a gun. Then again, maybe even suicide."

Thanks, NPS, for the reminder. It pales to "I know I'm cooler than this cat you sittin' wit'. Come ON, baby..."

You know, I thought it was just me. "Be Your Man" is the one with a funkier bassline, imo. I dug "Free World" until the cowbell (which seems too loud) and the gun reference.

yeah, I'v never been too fond of the lyrics, but then again, as mistermaxx said, jesse was never that great of a lyricist.

I like the cow bell

I know what you're sayin but "Be Your Man" is one of my all time favorite basslines (right after glide, and 777) Mix that puppy with Tour De France and you have the party rockin! Well back in 85-86 any way lol

Man do I? I use to get so excited when Prince or somebody else that I dug had a Smoking B-Side.the scary part with some of those B-Sides is that they easily were better than 60-70% of the tracks on the Album.those were the days.it has become a last Art IMHO.
