"Purple Rain" is the best song of the last 25 years!

So says Howard Stern. I know you guys are tired of the "Prince mention on Howard!!!" threads, but I thought this was worth it.

Robin was reading off that stupid VH-1 list of the best songs of the last quarter-century, and Howard kept insisting that "Purple Rain" is the absolute best, and that nobody could argue with him. He ordered someone to find the track and play it against the winner ("Smells Like Teen Spirit"). He kept saying, "Listen to that! It just gives you chills! The guy is brilliant! What's better than this? Nothing!"

I was so fucking excited I just had to share.

I disagree simply because you can't have just one song from 25 years.

Of course you can't. The whole idea is idiotic, not to mention useless. I just love Prince mentions, and it was exciting for me to hear someone insisting at the top of their lungs that he's the best and nobody can say otherwise! I rarely hear P getting his props anymore. Let me have my moment! lol

Howard LOVES Prince! He talks about him every couple months and it is always how amazing he is..

When P changed his name, Howard was all over him...it was as though he couldn't stand P. I never even knew that he liked him

I think that Carmen Electra was on his show and got asked about him. I guess that she and P had had a falling out and she kind of dismissed him. Then, Howard began making terrible jokes about P and calling him a "wuss," etc.

So, I never understood how HS really felt about P.

Can anyone shed some QUICK facts without causing a major thread...and uproar?

Thanks and peaceout...

I also remember Howard saying that to make himself cry for the miscarriage scene in "Private Parts" he listened to Purple Rain (the song) over and over. He definitely is a fan of the Purple Rain era and I think he really respects Prince as a guitarist (he's said this a bunch of times too) but I don't see him listening to anything else from the Prince catalog. Can't see him jamming to Parade or Lovesexy for instance!!

I'm thinking Beth or his daughters may be into Prince and they are egging him on to
keep talking about him. I doubt Prince will EVER do the show especially after the press conference.

Its always nice to hear someone in the Media say Great things bout Prince.

Purple Rain is def ONE of the best songs in the last 25 Years.

It might be true, Howard is probably just into the PR Era.

Cool post! It's nice to see Howard digs Prince. You usually don't see to many people so heavy in machismo praising him.

I wouldn't call VH-1's list "stupid". It's just an opinion from a group of music lovers, not a federal law.

But between Purple Rain and Smells Like Teen Spirit, I would have to go with the latter. Purple Rain was a great stadium rock anthem, but it wasn't the catalyst for change in the music industry that SLTS was. That song had a greater impact on the direction of music than Purple Rain.

Besides, didn't When Doves Cry make it rather high on the list anyhow?

I know he likes Sign O' The Times, and when Emancipation came out he bought it and liked it. Dumbass.
