Madhouse '36' instead of NEWS Everybody seems so down that the new album will be instrumental. I bet, however, if Prince decided to say 'a new Madhouse album is finally going to be released'- people would be going wild with excitement. Eric Leeds, of course, is playing on this album (and hopefully John Blackwell too). Thinking of it as Madhouse '36' keeps me happier. Part of me, of course, would much rather prefer an album with vocals, but then I think of the track 'High" (some of his worst singing and lyrics ever in my opinion), and I feel -'maybe an insrumental album isn't such a bad idea right now'. Most of his recent vocal output(with the eception of 'TRC') grew old for me very quickly. Xpectation, however, continues to grow on me more and more.

That's just people who haven't heard the mid-1990s version of Madhouse. Those that have, know the name isn't a quality-guarantee at all. © Bart Van Hemelen

But then again, that one didn't make it passed Quality Control AKA actually being released. For a lot of songs there is a good reason that they remain in the vault while better music is created today (in the eye of the 'artist'). In this case that holds very true, allthough there is always somebody out there that even likes this music above anything else (not me in this case). The sample of NEWS sounds much more interesting than Madhouse. At least there is much more tension in the music. Remember that this would be the first instrumental released under the name Prince and not as some other side-job, if it is released as a CD to stores. Xpectation was only available as download to a limited group of people. I for one thing will not judge a book by its cover and wait patiently, since all good things come to those who wait. I'm looking forward to News, I really liked Xpectation.
And I agree, the 93 Madhouse album is shite, and like the original poster, I would like a vocal album too, but then I think of High, and Rave - and I think maybe we should be happy that - even if they are instrumental - we got 2 new albums in 6 months. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord

True, I have to agree with you on that one. I guess not everybody is perfect Maybe his phoneline was dead when he was trying to cancel that one
