Purple Rain II

Regarding ATWIAD, Prince has said in interviews, at the time, "do you know how easy it would have been to make Purple Rain II? How easy it would to have opened ATWIAD with a guitar solo like at the end of Let's Go Crazy" [I'm para-phrasing] - obviously in the albums defence and it's almost polar attitude to that of Purple Rain.

I got to thinking, what would be on a "Purple Rain II" type album - I came up with this:

Album
All Day, All Night
Roadhouse Garden
Our Destiny
Electric Intercourse
The Dance Electric
G-Spot
Mia Bocca
She's Always In My Hair
Temptation
The Ladder

Singles:
All Day, All Night
She's Always In My Hair
Mia Bocca
The Dance Electric

Sounds like a pretty good record to me, although I'm glad we got ATWIAD. smile

That would have slotted on very nice!

But it was already released as a b-side. I guess if he had been working on this album at the time, he could have held 17 Days back from A6 and not released it as a b-side as well.

No-one Ive spoken with (so far) has managed 2 confirm (with the exception of a certain lady called Wendy!) that Roadhouse Garden and Our Destiny are two seperate tracks - Ive been told they are in fact one and the same and were: "...only ever known as 'Roadhouse Garden'"
I LOVE that song!!!
The downside being that even if it does ever see the light of day, It'll more than likely be tweaked, and played around with so that it ends up being nothing like it started out.
sigh

G-spot is probably one his best songs. if it were out today by himself, Brintey, Neptunes, etc, it would be huge.

Our Destiny definitely does exist on its own, and the studio version that I know does not include all the Roadhouse Garden segments which were played live. Admittedly, this could just have been clever editing on someone's part, but my current belief is that Roadhouse Garden proper only evolved as an extension of Our Destiny and so does not exist, outside of the 84 performances, in the same "completed" sense as that track.

Anyone with conclusive information here is encouraged to correcT me, however...

Keep dreamin', .orgers cuz Purple Rain II will never happen. In fact, I'm glad there was never a part II. It probably wouldn't have been as good as the first. I'm glad Prince decided to go psychedelic and create his next masterpiece.
