Where Was Madonna?

ok, prince's excuse for NOT singing on "we are the world" was wack, but he wasn't the only artist absent from the recording.

i don't remember madonna being there, either.

i'm sure there were other artists who didn't participate. patti labelle comes to mind.

was pat benatar there?

What was Princes lame excuse?
And why didn't he want to do it?
Though I don't think his voice would have fit in there, between Luciano and Michael

Quite frankly,I don't think Madonna was invited sad

But,she did perform at the Live-Aid concert,so I guess that makes up for it.

I'm pretty sure you are right about Madonna not being invited (and if anyone knows - you will!!!).

Incidentally, David - at LiveAid, did Madonna introduce the video contribution fromm Prince after her own set in Philadelphia - or is my memory fading badly (old age)?

You know what? I haven't seen that Live-Aid footage in years,so I can't recall if it was Madonna who introduced the Prince video.

Madonna herself was introduced by Bette Midler. Prince actually helped Madonna with the choreography for her Live Aid performance of 'Holiday'...

Uh...I"m not sure that is true---Brad Jeffries was her choreographer for the Virgin Tour and I'm pretty sure the Dancing for Holiday at live aid is the same to what she did on the Virgin tour...

I don't think his excuse was whack. He didn't belong there and he knew it. He is an artist and why should he have to sing some song he isn't comfortable singing. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Prince put the song "4 The Tears In Ur Eyes" on that album (it was an album, right)? I think that's just fine!

nod
I had the record. It was on there. "I tried to tell them that I didn't wanna sing, but I'd gladly write a song instead." He did, it was on the album, but then things got ugly. sigh

You may not be sure but rest assured that, if the info on UPTOWN's 'Days Of Wild' is correct, then P was definitely involved on this one, lol!

not everything in UPTOWN publications is true or accurate, lol. just because someone suggests or says something about prince, and they happen to be involved with the almighty Days Of Wild, doesn't make it fact. i think purplegypsy may be right on this one. the credits for the choreography go to a guy called Brad Jeffries.

Relax guys. Just making sure you were paying attention...wink

The actual reference regarding Prince's alleged, em contribution to Madonna's live repertoire can be found on page 217, paragraph 3, of the trashy yet hugely readable book, 'Slave 2 The Rhythm', by Liz Jones.

Just for the record, Prince did NOT choreograph the dance routine, it just says Prince "helped" out with the choreography. Of course said anomaly ( can't say I'm crazy about any of Madonna's live dance routines anyway!) might have amounted to nothing more than Prince advising Madge to "shake that ass a bit more", or something to that effect. But at least it's documented.

slave 2 the rhythm/purple reign was an awful book. there was so little truth in there. liz is just a woman who gets bitter when denied interviews...check out her gossip column once in a while (or, rather, don't).

I wouldn't say 'Slave' was "awful" (even though she admitted it was her first book, and boy does it show!).

Like I said I found it trashy, but in a fun, harmless kind of way.

Granted, it was choc-full of inaccuracies, mostly because of sloppy research, but the book was devoid of unnecessary venom and Liz Jones couldn't conceal the fact that she remained a Prince fan throughout the book. I found the overall tone and slant of 'Slave' to be very sympathetic towards Prince.
