"Prince should do XYZ" series, #1: Prince should play on Jools Holland's show

Prince should play on the Jools Holland show (BBC2 television, UK).

He should. It's a very well-regarded and respected show, and I always wondered why, when he visits the UK, he never played on the show when it really is all about real music. Prince's agent needs to get him on this show, he'd kick ass!

Yes- an excellent show it is indeed. Now then, why no review, judicial or otherwise, to moderation?

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

He never played it before because he would have to share
the show with 2 or 3 other performers, only perform one
song at a time and then let someone else take the spotlight
again before he could do another song.

Prince either hits and runs or stays and plays until he
gets bored.

Radiohead were on Jools last night. Amazing. Played 3 songs
from their new album. And Martina was there too with a new
song [Martina who used to sing with Tricky]. Pretty cool.

It was The White Room.

And yes, I think it would be wonderful to see Prince on the Jools Holland show.

I really do not see him fit in, as the program has such a down-to-earth atmosphere.
He might wanna perform a song or two, but talking about (his) music is not one of
his core qualities.

Next thing you know he is chopping some licks with the Jools Holland Rhythm and
Blues Orchestra, on one of those cheesy incestual Jools Holland & Friends CD's!

biggrin

Yes, I couldn't agree more. He should have done it last October when he was in the UK.

He would do three songs and I'm sure he wouldn't have to do the interview at the piano if he didn't want to.

It makes perfect sense - which is why he probably won't do it.

No he didn't. That was "The White Room".

I think it would be great for Prince to drop the petulant 80s popstar bullshit and just play on a show about music. He could chill beside Jools at the piano and chat about the state of the record industry, and do some jazzy tracks. It'd go down a storm!

Prince has had plenty of opportunity, but each time he prefered kiddie stuff like TOTP. Just look at what shows he did in the UK and the US and Europe to promote Rave: it's embarrassing.

Please god no. I'm so sick of his "the white man did it to me" and "I am making sooo much money right now" crap when he is shopping an album to the highest bidder at the same time.

Too right. And I suspect Jools would find it irresistible to challenge Prince to a mano a mano... that would really be cool.

As for it "going down a storm" with the general public somehow I'm not too sure.

He did TFI Friday back then and Chris Evans gave him a big build up.Sadly the show was in it's decline then so didn't have the impact it could have done.

Hey so am I, but I'm just trying to think of what would convince P to do show. A chance to vent his opinions about whatever? A chance to play on a show that's about "real music" by "real musicians"? How can he resist biggrin

His UK agent needs to stop calling TOTP and leave that to the Britney generation of bands.

Well if nothing else, Prince could certainly use such an appearance to showcase his musicianship, which is oft-overlooked by the people who haven't seen or heard of the guy since 1992 biggrin

True. It is well respected and I think Prince would fit right in.
