Van Halen, Black Flag, The Camps among first timers eligible for Rock Hall of Fame 2004

According to various web sites I culled from today, 05 June, is the day the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is getting together to discuss who will be part of the Hall of Fame Class of 2004. I guess a short list will be put together in July and then the acutal nominee list will be released in October-November.

Here is what I found out . . .

VAN HALEN is among the front-runners eligible for 2004 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Other first-time contenders include BLACK FLAG, THE CRAMPS, X and SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES.

Previous nominees that have yet to garner induction include BLACK SABBATH, CHICAGO, ALICE COOPER, DEEP PURPLE, GENESIS, KISS, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, THE NEW YORK DOLLS, ROXY MUSIC, TODD RUNDGREN, THE SEX PISTOLS, PATTI SMITH, TOM WAITS, TRAFFIC, YES and ZZ TOP.

The Hall of Fame nominating committee will meet June 5 to discuss potential nominees.

Weird, according to one site, "X" is not eligible until 2007. Confusion. confuse

What gets me is the Prince is not listed, no no no! although we are well aware of the debates we had on this site about Prince not being inducted in March with The Police and Elvis Costello and the Attractions and the others part of the 2003 Class.

As well, Teddy Pendergrass, Patsy Cline, The Ohio Players, Cool and the Gang, the Moody Blues, Joe Cocker, Jimmy Buffet, Electric Light Orchestra, WAR, Grand Funk Railroad, Rush, Cheap Trick, the Cars, Eddie Money, Meat Loaf, Peter Gabriel, Rick James, Chaka Khan, MC5, the Commodores, the Guess Who, Bob Seger, T. Rex, Luther Vandross, and Barry White are just some of the artists and bands who are eligible for contention.

Maybe the eligible list is so huge, only a few artists and bands were mentioned? But why not Prince? He is big enough name to garner at least some mention.

Other Rock Hall news -- U2 will likely be on the 2005 ballot, or will be considered for induction when the first-timers list comes out in 2004 for the 2005 Class induction ceremony.

Cross your fingers and hope Prince will be in the short list for 2004 induction. He has to. It's been 25 years.

There are some awesome bands in there (Cramps, Black Flag,X, SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES, BLACK SABBATH, THE NEW YORK DOLLS, ROXY MUSIC, TODD RUNDGREN, THE SEX PISTOLS, PATTI SMITH, TOM WAITS, TRAFFIC)

But, Prince really DOES deserve to be inducted.

I don't get it. confuse

I certainly hope you mean THE CRAMPS, and not "The Camps".

I would bet any amount of money that Black Flag will never get into the Hall. Their music is just not commercial enuff for the dicks.

Prince will get in, no doubt. He is too powerful no too.

Van Halen is another easy bet. They are the number one loud rock band, ever.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

hey, remove "the cramps" logo, and prince can use the cramps cover for a re-release 3cd boxset of "newpower soul", "rave un2 the joy fantastic" and "1999: the new master"!

LittlePill ... from what I gather, the Rock Hall is in discussion now, and a short list will come out at the end of the month or sometime in July.

That list will be voted from media types in the industry, and then in November the actual inductee list for the Class of 2004 will be announced.
