The Residents;Homage or are they just taking the piss? i just heard a couple of Prince covers by some band called the residents and it sounds like they are taking the piss.
The cover of 1999 isnt to flattering. They also cover Shockadelica with the subtitle Let me Lick Your Pussy. does anyone know anything about them.? Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

the residents RAWK!!!
their cover of 1999 is obviously tongue in cheek (which i THINK is what taking the piss means...i'm a dumb-fuck american, you gotta 'splain things slowly to me!)...but i really dig this version, actually. it's the only version of 1999 i ever listen to anymore. the residents have been around for 20-some years...i beLIEVE they're from san francisco. they've put out tons of albums. they wear giant eyeballs on their heads. here's a picture: 
oh, and shockadelica (lmlyp, which yes, DOES stand for let me lick your pussy) is by a band called ween, not the residents. ween rawxxx too. they throw in the alphabet st. rap...talk to me lover cum and tell me what you taste...it's sweet. 
i actually think these are the best 2 prince covers i've heard...there's one by peaches and someone else of sexy dancer i think that's slammin' too... No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

The Residents are awesome - I got to see them on their 30th Anniversary tour at the House Of Blues last fall, and it was one of the most fun concerts I'd ever had the pleasure to enjoy (plus I got to see up the mask of the lead singer - they're getting sloppy in their old age).
They've been commenting on pop culture - and specifically, pop MUSIC - since their very first album "Meet the Residents", which parodied a Beatles album on the album sleeve, and began with a surreal cover of Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Were Made For Walking" and just got weirder from there. Not to mention they did music for Pee Wee's Playhouse - how cool is that? | |
