Old Farts! Prince CD's vs Vinyl I was listening to SOTT on vinyl for the first time in years recently, and it occurred to me that it felt really different from playing the cd. Not just the sleeves, but also the track listing with four distinct sides. I even noticed little sounds and things I'd been ignoring. Weird huh?
Anyone else got insights on this?

Anyone else got insights on this? I have all records up to and including SOTT on vinyl only. I love 'em. "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

Anyone else got insights on this? Prince's CD's suck soundwise, the vinyls are much better "Sign "O" The Times" being a great example as is "Around The World In A Day" and "1999"... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

try listening to lovesexy on vinyl...you'll hear things that you've never heard on the cd. there are some segments (and this is also true of sott) where there are layers of music and voice that just don't come through on the cd. not to mention that on vinyl you can play things backwards and here those little messages that p likes to mess around with so much. if you were lucky enough to find rainbow children on vinyl you can get a lot more out of that one also.

I like having both cds and the vinyl records.
I have had to rebuy the vinyl since I wasn't careful with my records as a kid.

I've almost all albums on vinyl (For You - 0->, Gold experience (Promo) & Rave). Funniest is a misprinting of SOTT, which on side 4 has the label far out of the centre. Looks cool!!
For me, the sound differs not much compared to the CD's. But i like the possibility playing it on 45 rpm (or even 78 rpm ---> = triple speed Camille ) @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Speaking of speeding things up, have any of you tried listening to Scarlet Pussy at 45 rpm? It's almost as good as it is at 33 1/3!

i am definitely one of the old farts, and i'll take the contrary position. i had literally thousands of records on vinyl back in the day. i know many will say that vinyl gives you a warmer sound, but no matter what you do, playing vinyl deteriorates the sound. i was (and am) pretty obsessive about my records, in terms of their care, but no mattter what you do, records develop noise. i had very expensive turntables and very expensive cartriges, but still the very act of playing a record damages the vinyl. so, if there is a record you love and you play it a lot, it deteriorates, developes crackles and pops. so i prefer cds. ------------------------------------------------

Sorry, but you can't beat vinyl!
I was even sad enough to buy all my vinyl from as many different coutries as possible. I've got UK (where I'm from), German, Italian, French, US, Mexican, Spanish, Australian, and Japanese imports of pretty much most of his early stuff. Strangely enough, the Japanese vinyls always had the better sound quality. Dunno why.

The Japanese change the Master plates that cut out the grooves every 1000 pressings. so the all vinyl is damm near perfect quality. the rest of the world changes them at around 10,000. thus the difference.

Thanks for that! I've always wondered why that was.
