"The Latest Fashion" or "My Summertime Thang?"

I'll admit it: I felt ripped off when I heard these two "Graffiti Bridge"-era songs. I heard "TLF" before "MST," and scornfully thought the Time was cheap for putting a "twin" on their album.

Years later, I know a lot more about how big a role Prince had in Time album production. (I'd always wondered why -- as a kid -- I heard Prince-like vocals on Time albums. Ha!)

Personally, I prefer "MST." It just seems to have more going on, melodically and lyrically. The other song just seems like a thematic leap that falls flat. (How's that for mixing metaphors?)

What's your pick?

My Summertime Thang then.

I agree.

And wasn't it fun to put on that first Time album and go; "Uhm, that sounds like Prince in the background...It is! It is! It IS Prince in the back ground!"

And oh well, on the fore sumtimes too, the cheaky bastard.

I hope you are not talking about the The Time version, which STINKS.

Sorry Prince. (he just does not realise when he's got something good; if it is good, don't change it)

Throaway grooves they most definitely are.

But Prince's guitar playing and electric piano solo on the unreleased extended version of 'The Latest Fashion' is nothing short of sublime, though.

David did actually say "throaway grooves". The jamming itself does kick some ass, though!

My summertime thang is a cool song, the latest fashion is a patched together scene like thing... but My summertime thang actually seems like a song with mood.
