As a side note, Charlene doesn't have a leg to stand on. According to that article, she says that Prince "insisted on being called The Artist Formerly Known As Prince"

Even when he was he never said that he was to be called. He tollerated the media calling him "The Artist".

If Prince was into mind games like she says, he would have told her to call him
