The Best of Prince's Rap stuff

ok,so i know 90% of u are reading this & thinking, "BEST OF?... isn't that a contradiction in terms?"
but just say u had 2 put 2gether a cd 80mins long with the best of Prince's rap stuff... Days O' Wild,Face Down,My Name Is Prince,etc...

what would u have on there, which track sequence & also, trax which may get a rap/hip hop fan in2 Prince. (or this disc atleast)

i made one awhile ago ,loosely along these lines entitled:

FACE DOWN:

My Name Is Prince
Face Down
Days O' Wild
Slave
Poom Poom
Da Da Da
P Control (remix)
Billy Jack Bitch
Bob George
Dead On It
Undisputed
Had U
Peopel Without
Live4Love

it didnt stay strictly with rap...just the more hardcore IN YOUR FACE Prince sound.

ok,put 2gether ur 'Prince...Best Of The Rap Stuff' compilation (however tuff it may be)
wink

I'm no "rap/hip-hop" fan of Prince's attempts, it made me crange way back in the Diamonds and Pearls era.

But I did enjoy Horny Pony.

And if a hip hop fan isn't a Prince fan already, I think it'll be a challenge. But you never know, they may be suprised to find real instruments being used in most cases.

i dont mean 2 turn a hip hop efficianado (type-o?) on2 Prince...
but i mean just someone in general who listens2 rap music & may like it.

like i said,i know this isnt a Prince fan's fave scene...
but what u would pick if u had2 pick the best (fave) rap tracks he has done.

The Good Life - Big City Remix

is the only instance of cool Prince rapping I can come up
with right now. the rest is amusing at best.

True, but I'd probably put Days of Wild and Pope with this track, too. Maybe Race too, but that's a maybe!

Prince + rap = bullshit. His rap skillz are null at best. He should stick to singing. As far as a "best of" goes, why bother? If I HAD (had as in gun to my head, had) to pick ONE, it would be the Good Life remix. No one asks what's Flava Flav's best drum solo (he does play drums, too); so why even bother with a Prince rap thread? I know, just for converstaion. Next thing up: Prince's top 10 raps? biggrin

There is an art and skill to rap. If you listen to Chuck D. & Public Enemy, Dead Prez, Talieb Kwalei, and even Biggie, Pac, Scarface and Ice Cube you come to learn the intricate nuiances that differenciate between GOOD rap and just rhyming sentences. That's why real rappers laugh at cats like 50 Cent & Ja Rule and laugh even harder when singers try to rap. You say I act as if there is some skill to rapping, when actually the real question is why don't you know the difference between good rap and bad. People are STILL trying to pretend that hip hop is not a "valid" artform. Sheesh! Hip hop & rap aren't going anywhere. I've learned to understand and therefore appreciate it. So should the rest of the "naysayers' on this board. Prince can kick a clever line or two, but his delivery is for shit and his flow is wack. Corny as HELL. He's an expert vocalist, but his rap skillz are sub par. Trying to devalue the artform itself won't change that.
p.s. 18 & Over is a perfect example of why Prince SHOULDN'T rap. Singing is his game. He should stick to it.

I am with Blaque all the way. MC'ing (which is what it is really called, the media coined it "rap") is a true art form and damn hard. Fuck the rap assholes, real hip hop is from the heart and it shows. Mos Def, Talib Kweli, The Roots, Common, are just some of the current faves. Chuck D, KRS, Gangstarr, and plenty others paved the way. And saying the best Prince rap tracks is an oxymoron...the man can't. But he tried it, so I respect him for that. Fifty cent, Ja rule, Nelly ...PPPUUUHHHLLLEEEAAASSSEEE... Save the art form people!!!

Just like rappers you talk a lot bullshit!!!

I do not give a rat's ass about rap to care about who is good and who is bad. Right now the top ten cd's on the charts are by rock acts. Kind of looks like rap may have had it's moment. All things come to an end and I am glad it has finally starting to happen with Rap.

If Rap is in an artform. Please explain why rappers cannot maintain their careers beyond two or three recordings. I'll tell you why because it requires little or no talent to do it. I give Public Enemy credit because the lyrics were great but, the rest of it is about as relevent as disco music. I have also let people who are rap fans listen to 18 and over and they liked the song. They did not fall out of their chairs but, they seemed to like it.

So much for the artform of rapping. I could find a wino off the corner to rap and sell some cd's. Oh !!! I forgot all of the rappers out today are winos off the corner. (LOL)

thanks for the thread idea joshy, i have been meaning to make some compilation albums of different prince genres (i have been saying that 4 years) and i will do a rap one, im not a rap fan so i dont mind his ones as they are often lighthearted and easy to understand...so this has given me some good ideas, i would have 4gotten the good life remix.

including all the remixes is there enough trax to do a mild techno compilation i wonder.

First of all, it is YOU who bullshit with pseudo-facts. Check the charts before you post. 50 Cent is #5 and David Banner is #9. Secondly, considering the fact that 99% of the rappers out are people of color, your "winos on the corner" comment is borderline. Your undertones are showing. Thirdly, I don't give a rat's ass about rappers either, but unlike YOU, I have the good sense to attempt to understand something that I don't like so as to to compartmentalize it. Regardless of your little opinions of rap, ITS HERE TO STAY. Get over yourself and learn to DEAL. Just because YOU haven't heard someone else's work doesn't mean its no good. "So much for the artform of rapping?" That ARTFORM is what has kept the music biz from caving in on itself for the last few years. I hate MOST of the music on the charts INCLUDING most of the hip hop, but I'm not attempting to devalue it because I don't like it. I didn't call Radiohead, the Deftones, the White Stripes or Third Eye Blind "silly white folks druggie music" just because I don't like them. You need some sensitivity classes. I hope you're not a cop. "I'll give you Public Enemy?" You obviously don't know enough rap to GIVE me ANYTHING. How 'bout I GIVE YOU a list of some artists that write great lyrics and deserve more respect than being called winos off the street? Then again, its not MY job to educate the ignorant. By the way, there are quite a few rappers who have had long careers. Unlike pop, rap doesn't need MAINSTREAM to survive. Ask Too Short.
Fourthly, when all is said and done, Prince SUCKS as a rapper. PERIOD.

I answered that. The Good Life remix. Laura is the one with the underlying comment that started this.
and Suge Knight is no rap expert. Everybody knows that fool is just an opportunistic drug dealer attempting to exploit rappers in the same fashion that Don King exploits boxers. What he likes is MONEY not music.

Well, has Flava Flav ever widely released anything with him doing a drum solo? That's probably why no one asks that question (and also the fact that he probably hasn't done too many of them, unlike Prince and rap)! smile So, there's nothing wrong with the fact that this thread exists!
