Covers of P songs......

Tell us if u like any and which 1's. 4 me it's the Alicia Keys cover. Luv that. Certainly does justice How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore. Sometimes i wish it was P that was all over the radio with these hits. It seems that he does something brilliant, doesn't have a label, and some1 else takes the credit by singin' his classics. Alicia Keys is ok tho...she got it...oh well u pay a price @ times 4 being ur self...not bitchin' 2 much myself...otherwise we may not have some of the stuff that other have not have the balls 2 touch or do because of their 'label'

cyndi lauper did "when you were mine" some justice, imho...nod and peaches & lap-lap's re-do of "sexy dancer" is hilarious!

For me it's got to be Foo Fighters covering "Drive Me Wild"
(Okay, it's Vanity 6, not Prince - but c'mon, still counts!)

* oh, and Whale do a great version of Darling Nikki too!

Whatcha think about Sinead O'connor's take on Nothing Compares 2 u? Honestly, when i 1st heard that she covered 1 of my faves and it went 2 no 1 in most places, I was so pissed off smile)

Alot of ppl rave this song. I honeslty don't think she did the song justice(I mean Prince/Rosie version) haven't heard the Family version tho.

Trik Turner's Irresistable Bitch is still my favorite cover of the covers I've heard.

I haven't liked most of the other covers that I've listened to. Although, I do enjoy some live covers, like Costello's Pop Life.

smile i heard the whale 1...damn that is not bad...these days i approach music differently...i used 2 think covers were just a rip-off, a quick way 2 do somethin' without doin' anythin'...mayb true 4 some of the artist but i think now that is BS. Some1 can really make it different and perhaps even bette' sounding in their own signature voice. It can b interesting, but i understand because 4 me it used 2 b this way b4, that if i luved some1 and their song, i did not want 2 hear another p4orm it and c it go 2 no1 or even do well. Fuck what a disaster, i used 2 think smile

I absolutely love the P version, above any1 that can sing it. He plays the piano 4 cryin' out loud on it. Cannot get 'nuff, that is why i wish he sat @ the piano 4 more than 10 seconds on the Rave DVD. He is so good...and it is so deep and moving...i don't know about others...but when i hear him doin' this i get shivers down my spine...it is so good...he really knew what he wrote and composed...fantastic...i like the Sinead 1 but only because I like the song and not b'cause i like her or her voice...i feel 4 him in a way because, like it or not, it could have been him on that radio with this beautiful song. I know all about the commercial aspect and the artistic integrity, but we all know in out hearts that our man, P, was meant 2 sing this everywhere. He has written some of the best stuff 4sho.

tori amos' cover of purple rain is pretty good but the quality of the recording (live bootleg) is poor. bare naked ladies doing acoustic when doves cry is good, very good harmonies.
semisonic version of erotic city (heard this when i wasnt even a prince fan and loved it!) is good

foo fighters doing purple rain live is standard, only do first half though!

Semisonic "erotic city" fuckin rocks!!!
i love it better than P's cut.
best Prince cover by far!!

here r my other faves:

D'Angelo "she's always in my hair" (on the rnb tip, with the guitar ...very sexy & kooky)

Keller Williams "darling nikki" (acoustic guitar & vocals,he is a country singer & he plays it so good! this is a must!)

Darren Hayes "i wish u heaven" (just piano & vocals, really beautiful)

Rebecca Romijn Stamos "Darling Nikki" (has a altRock vibe... think TeaParty/The Cult... very sexy!!!)

TLC "if i was your girlfriend"

Derailers "raspberry beret" (if u like it a lil bit country... & a lil bit Prince... u'll like this alot)

Tina Turner's LIVE version of Let's Pretend We're Married was good.

Mariah Carey's version of The Beautiful Ones isn't bad either.

Tina Turner doing Let's Pretend We're Married is good, as i Cyndi Lauper's When you Were Mine. Worst ever is Gayle and Gillian's I wanna be your lover. Proof that for every Kylie Minogue neighbours creates, you get about 100 clowns dressed in shit eighties gear just hoping to scrape the top 40
