How can you rank amongst albums that are eclectic in style and atmosphere...

I've seen better threads... bored

Brilliant...a master peice, Yes, but NOT his best. Id never swap this for Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, Parde, Sign O The Times or Lovesexy.

It is however the best thing he could have possibly released at this stage of his career. He's done everything else so it was refreshing to hear something so mature, creative and insightful.

After the mess of New Power Soul, Rave..., and some of the poor NPGMC songs, this was a relief, a reminder of why we loved Prince in the first place.

Its great because you actually feel Prince is enjoying the music he is making, unlike his previous releases to this where everything was so sterile.

It spawned a wicked tour, brought shed loads of critical respect to the man, and made most of his fans excited about the prospect of a new prince record again.

Where is that new album anyway???

I used to think the same but The Rainbow Children has edged all of those, in my opinion.

I've said it before and I will say it again: TRC is my favorite Prince album.

Although I love the 80's stuff, I really like the mature, organic sound and the flow of TRC. The lyrics are goofy though and certainly not the best he has done...
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I felt it was an interesting record. I dunno 'bout it being a 'masterpiece' but it certainly has it's moments, which r fantastic 2 say the least. @ least 4 me. There is real creativity in there that's 4sho.

after many listenings and some time for perspective, i have to stick with the comments i made in the trc listening sessions at the 2001 celebration, and that is that trc definitely has some moments of brilliance, but it would not rank in my top 5 prince albums.

yeah i agree with u Sandra as 4 me it took quite a few listens 2 really get into it. Perhaps such records r the best:) Sometimes u hear a song on the radio and drives u mad after listening 2 it again. Maybe some of the best songs r like wine, in that they get better with time, and not always @ 1st listen.

It is brilliant, incredibly so. However, I don't agree that it is the best Prince album. This is an argument about quality, not preference. In terms of quality, it gets 5 stars, no doubt.

I also count it as one of his very very best but somehow
there is something in my system that doesn't allow me to
pick any album over Parade or Sign or Lovesexy.

I don't know what it is. Some indefinite voice in the back
of my mind that says "blaspheme against the trinity and u
shall be struck by lightning next time u take ur fucking
dog for a walk mothafucka".

So I'll just say TRC is a brilliant album.

Damn NME already stole my post.

I was going to write
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

but he already did. I figured that I'd be the first to congratulate ANJI on a funny post. You knuckleheads don't understand that he is fucking with you. TRC is a shitty album and he was just doing a chump count of who will belly up to the table every time Prince takes a steaming dump on a plate. hahahahaahahahaha.

Bon apetite everyone. Hope there isn't any corn left in your teeth after eating this shit pile of an album. Good job ANJI, you've made the best post in a long time. TRC is a fresh, steaming pile of shiite but you have shown that there are still many fams who will get out the knife and fork and chow!

Whether Anji is fucking about or not is irrelevant to the replies you stupid muppet!
