I found the Diamonds & Pearls album to be deep!

Yeah, I was 13 at the time of its release but I can still find it to be personally rewarding whenever I let myself in beyond the commercial success that it was. As far as pop goes, it's a fucking classic!

i had a hard time getting into d & p at first. i thought then, and still think now, that it is more an album for the masses than for the prince fanbase (as if u could make such a distinction). when i first heard it, nothing really moved me. i didn't feel as if prince was making music for ME anymore, 'cause before that, his albums always made me smile and go, "yeaaahhh...!" it took me a while to get into songs like strollin', money don't matter 2 nite, walk don't walk. they sounded more orthodox than anything else he had done till that point - downright conventional.
the record before it (GB) and the one after (eek(+>smile spoke 2 me like prince usually does, but d & p seemed (still does) like one for the masses. it took me a while, but i dig it now. in fact, it may point more toward the direction he's into now than any other record from that period.

I actually still dig Jughead, especially Prince's rap. 'Don't worry if you're looking silly, look over here at me...'

"Gett Off" is a good time, though I remember the first time I heard it I hated it because I thought it sounded like a Bell Biv Devoe song, HA!!!

I've always been really partial to "Willing and Able" and I looove me some "Thunder".

D+P is okay... some gems but a few weak tracks (erm, "Walk Don't Walk" anyone?). I don't think the album will age that well to be honest, but with a few hits on there like Gett Off, Cream, and Diamonds and Pearls no doubt people will remember it in years to come.

I think "Live 4 Love" is a great track... cheesy lyrics but some great guitar work. And "Willing and Able" is fab... one of the tracks that showed that Tony M wasn't all bad.

Gett Off was a funk bomb in the UK! I can still remember when mainstream radio were playing it every hour, even in its infancy. It sounded so raw, rude and funky; I was definitely mesmerised by the naughtiness. I idolised Prince back then!

I thought the video was brilliant. The timing of the release of this song and album was perfect. IMO.

Man, I absolutely loved Walk Don't Walk when I was younger, and still do (especially when the last verse swings in). What I can't quite get over though, is that Prince used Rebirth Of The Flesh as the backing track to it. Damn!

Strollin' is an all-time favourite from that album. I absolutely adore the song Prince performed in conjunction with it during the ONA concerts - You & Me.

Those were my thoughts too but I guess the basic backing track to Rebirth Of The Flesh had been slowed down for Walk Don't Walk. See, that's how deep this album goes! Hopefully, someone here can confirm this.

lol

GettOff is the jam of all time.
so duh!... its the best thing on D&P... tho PurplePump version shoulda been on the LP since it's lyrics r in the booklet.

top5:

Gett Off
Thunder
Live4Love
Insatiable
Diamonds&Pearls

& as4 the GettOff video...it is still incredibly sexy 2day i feel.
just sumthin about it that is so raw & not overproduced,& chicks with crazy-lookin wigs & $1m video effects & a pop-tart like christina or britney in it...

its just raw & sex, with the band per4mance & P playing that yellow cloud (isnt it?)...
it is the most sexified video ever...

& the MTV per4mance is like the sequel

headbang
also the D&P era is the only time Prince has visited australia... tho i was 8yrs old & not a fan then...
i have a soft spot 4 that era... & the boots from the tour wink
