Ok, so is "Tokyo" an instrumental, even tho it contains singing in it??...lol

it's on my Instrumentalove cd.
tho so is SensualEverafter,Deconstruction & The Rapture...
smile

on Xpectation i dont like the peppy stuff like Xemplify or Xpectation (Xpedition is gr8 tho)...
but i LOVE the slower stuff.
its just wonderful 2 mellow out 2...sit by a sunset with it on in the car...
2 fall asleep 2...
its beautiful music.

& THAt kinda stuff,or mad guitar stuff,is what i would LOVE right now.
just perhaps one more AMAZING instrumental work with that kinda vibe,
then P can get back 2 funkin' it up if he pleases.
smile

I love about 75% of the Xpectation CD (tho I couldn't tell ya which song is which by their titles...lol)...tracks 2, 3, 6 & 8 stand out in my mind, whatever they're called...I don't care what Prince does, as long as he does it well...and as long as he keeps surprising me with his artistic direction... nod

I know what you mean, I miss the vocals and the funk, but when the instrumental stuff is this good (Xpectation), I'm not gonna complain!

But instrumentals are easy, compared to writing, structured songs. It is no different then some jam session played out. Prince has just lost it. Put a fork in the brotha, I say. nod

Istrumentals r harder i think because u can go so many diff ways and it may not make any sense in the end...with vocals it may b easier 2 tell a cohesive story or make it sound 'catchy' or something like this - u r working with poetry afterall...with only instruments u r working with just a sound in the purest form...there is nothing else...no words...u must communicate this 2 the audience...it is not easy...4rom all indications P is doing an outstanding job stepping away 4rom his own 'norm' and givin' us somethin' a little diff...again. Be happy there is somethin' u know as with some artists u wait 4 or more years and get somethin' much worse or just empty promises that somethin' is commin'

I like both.

I rate Madhouse 8 and 16 up there with his best work, so I like the instrumental stuff.

But yes, I think I like it as a side project, I'm also itching for a proper new Prince album. smile

I'm with utopia7 on this one.
Enough with the 'new ex(X)periments in music'.
The reason I have been a Prince fan is because his music has ALWAYS 'got'me.No matter whether it was soul, funk, pop...whatever he chose to do, I was cool with it, and am thankful I was on 4 the ride. But first Xpectation...now this!!??? no no no!

I'd rather have New Power Soul Part 2 than this porn music he's putting out.

Course ALL this is one fan's humble opinion.

i haven't heard Xpectation yet but i can say is that judgeing from the previous instrumental ( and i'm certain most of them) they are not that good in my opinion.
the couple on TRC are limp and the kamasutra was the worst thing i ever that prince put out. that is worse than NPS, Rave and...his damn typhoon hair-do!
i want to hear him singing like he does. his voice is his greatest asset when he's not being cryptic and shit.

maybe u should chill and see what it's like as apposed 2 making ASSumptions on a 60 second sample. David Sylvian is notorious 4 doing this kind of 'eXperimental' stuff - HE doesnt like his voice, and yet he posesses one of the most wonderful, soothing voices Ive ever heard, and has a strong, loyal fan-base. All that aside, a lot of it is good 2...Ok, I like what ive heard so far - but give the guy a break - it wont hurt 4 him 2 twiddle a little - who know what the results from that may be? He's going somewhere whether we like it or not - u either hang on 4 the ride, or u get off at the next stop.

Then again, it may very well be crap!!!lol

madhouseman

The MADHOUSE albums (all 4) are excellent. The problem is when Prince tries something like Kamasutra, which is probably his worst disk ever. His tries at instrumentals (Prinstrumentals I call them) are good, but they don't last in my head. There are parts of the Madhouse albums that make me hum them later on. There isn't a tune on X that I have in my head. On the other hand I thank my lucky stars that nothing from KAMASUTRA stuck in my skull! lol.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

yeah and on Kamasutra he used fake strings and shit making it the most conceited and pretentious music Prince has ever released.
