I just got the CD and its sounds like it was a great show. Did anyone from the org see it? 5/10/02?

very crowded (only members). P played 4 about an hour, with an amazing rendition of Sign! There was this girl on stage at one time, but she got lost or something cuz she kept singing Detroit in the house (very irritating, considering she was in England and had 2 remind everybody that she was an american all the time! ) But she had a good voice
At one time P ws playing guitar on the boxes to the right side and he bumped his head to something hanging from the ceiling, very funny. he kept on sunglasses 4 the entire performance and wore a long coat (which must've been very hot!)

I remember tripping so much on his telecaster work!
His coat, his sunglasses, the telecaster and how agressive he was in his play really reminded me the 1999-Purple Rain era (from what I saw on video)

I also remember that the venue was odd, one room being dedicated to the prince concert and the other one (5 meters away) being dedicated to karaoke and food (!!!): while prince was tearing the roof off, some young guys were singing some fuckin' boys band song without ever thinking of coming to the other room to see who was playin!
Kinda things that make you realize that our little man is no longer a popular star...

This was my first ever Aftershow so it holds MANY special memories!

After the chaos we'd faced the night before (the idiot bouncers let too many non-members into the club. By the time we'd got there they were only letting in ONE Member... but NOT their guest. WTF? As if we were going to go in without them...) I was desperate to get into the Marquee! So desperate that I got a bit cheeky with a 7ft doorman who was treating us like sh*t and nearly didn't get in. What WAS I thinking??! (He could've eaten me for breakfast).


Once in, it was jam-packed and - wherever you were - you got an amazing view of Prince. And I co-sign Starbuck - his rendition of 'SOTT' was phenomenal! I had shivers down my spine when he played that. I don't know where it rates amongst all his other Aftershows (my friends thought it wasn't as good as others they'd witnessed) but, for me, it was an amazing night.

Despite being a Prince fan since 1984 and seeing him everytime he graced our shores I had never been to an aftershow (not in with the hip people in the know it seems).

So the Marquee was my first and so far only aftershow. One word sums it up...WOW!

I literally ran out of the Hammersmith Apollo and grabbed the first taxi I saw. I was one of the first to arrive at the Marquee and took up position right at the front slightly left of centre (the side Prince spent most of the night on - )

It was really amazing and if anything let it down it was that the club already had a lot on non-Prince fans who were all a little bermused by it all.

Thanks for the replies, Ive been to after shows but this one sounds excellent. I was pretty impressed and I figured the people who witnessed it would have great things to say about it. There were some interesting songs played, Automatic would have been great to see. Thanks again for the posts!!

A good aftershow, but not the best by any means. This time, instead of shoving down the front, I stayed at the bar. Great view, plus beer made it even better. No shoving or any other crowd problems, and I was still 30 foot from P.

Best way to enjoy an aftershow. Relaxed with a beer!

My fave is still Emporium, although it would have been nice to introduce myself to Gav and the crowd at the front!

weirdly enough, it wasn't that crowded at the front at all. We had a good beer supply down there too just before the show

just ended up with loads of people asking me to move to one side so they could see more. A short musician and a tall fan really don't mix well

Now I agree about the Emporium shows, especially the second one, that version of Days of Wild was the best ever although whoever thought about putting Prince on a stage that was LOWER than the audience should be shot on site

I was there 2...I remember walking in 2 the club and flashing the lamintate thang that we got from the NPGMC...there were non-members queuing...kinda made me feel like a movie star 4 a few small moments of my life

Anyway so we finanlly get in...being a gal as I am, and being a lil vain one...i had been wearing heels 4 3 days straight...and since I am not very tall I welcome any additional height I can get.

So my feet r arching, my body tells me I should be sleeping...however I can hear this funky music being played from inside a dark, smokey room...I enter...a great atmosphere...playing prince music and seeing faces I became familiar from all the time spent queuing outside the Hammersmith Apollo...

So prince comes on and did his funky thang...kept his shades on...the crowd was cool, no pushing and shoving just everyone having a good time.. u could have easily have walked 2 the front...but I was so knackered...i thought f@@k it...and enjoyed the fantastic rendition on SOTT, and the version of Dolphin was great.

I was so tired that I couldn't feel my legs anywore...numbness had sunk it...despite this...I danced the night away...

Now that's what u call music ...it makes u wanna move ur even when u wanna just collapse and die!

P.S did any one visit the karoake room next door 2 the prince room...there was one rather tough looking fellow who did the most sound-alike and animated version of Bjork's It's O So Quiet...I nearly wet my lil knickers...I will neva 4-get that

Funnily enough, I strolled right into the club for the aftershow, without having a laminate (I wasn't an NPGMC member, I was a guest of another member). Behind me loads of fans with laminates were being turned away crying and screaming

I think it was just down to the fact that was friendly to the security, I gave the guy a friendly nod and said "hey how's it goin" or something and so he cut me some slack. Phew!

I was there, I was so tired though I could hardly remember any of it the next day !!

The girl singing is from Detroit, Mi. and made the long haul to see Prince. She is part of the DETROITCRAWL.org fan group and sang for Prince in the Detroit show and he remembered here in London and let her sing.

She has a beautiful voice also!!

Great descriptions, I really appreciate the feedback. Sounds like it was a excellent time. I think I would have been at the bar with the other guy. At least Prince doesn't prohibit the sale of liquor at his after shows! Thanks again for the post's!
