ill go with prince easy. prince has been recording non stop in his own time since PP opened and before. mccartney slowed down now and i dont recall him being hugely profilic for a while. also, remember he would be writing half an album for the beatles, with john the other half, or say abit less for both then a song for george and ringo, wheras with every album they were all prince, apart from covers on emancipation etc. by 1985/6 wasnt prince meant to have recorded 320 songs that he never used? so imagine how high that is now! i know the mirror said not long ago supposedly he has 50 full albums in the vault that he reckons will never get released. but that was the 3am girls and they aint too good...

I'm a big Beatles fan (I've been a Prince fan since 1989, Beatles since the late 90s), and from everything I've read, Prince has written more than McCartney. McCartney has a ton of vault material too, although I believe Prince has way more, although numbers are difficult to give. McCartney seems a little more elusive with his material, though, and doesn't throw around figures like Prince and PP employees give out on an occasional basis.

My guess is that 50 albums is more like 50 albums-worth. I doubt he has 50 fully-completed and mastered albums. Probably more like 25 of those , and another several hundred unplaced songs.

McCartney has a ton of songs, probably not many (if any) unreleased completed albums. He said in an interview a few weeks ago that he'd thought of recording a swing album until Robbie Williams beat him too it. If that had been Prince, he would have recorded it, not just thought about it... (although Prince would not have released it either...)

Not sure about the vault numbers, but mccartney seems to have better quality control. he's not so keen to just put our any old sh*t to fill a 'contractual obligation'.

Maybe this means he has kept a greater proportion of his songs from being released. But then he seems to have a bit more of a life beyond music, so probably hasn't recorded as many tracks as Prince.

Look at this site too get an impression of the unreleased songs of McCartney:

I think Prince has more songs in his vault but from what I've heard of them a lot is not worth releasing/ throw-away songs.

McCartney has released quite some songs which were in his vault for years. Most of the time he re-records them then.

I would have to say Paul. As matter of fact, I just listened to his greatest hits yesterday and I must say he has written some amazing songs over his 40 year career. And we never have to listen to religious babble either, we just get good music with beautiful, fun lyrics. Paul rocks!!
