It is brilliant, incredibly so. However, I don't agree that it is the best Prince album. This is an argument about quality, not preference. In terms of quality, it gets 5 stars, no doubt.

Moonie, I'm not sure I understand. Do you equate best with quality, or preference? It sounds like you equate best with preference given that you rate The Rainbow Children with 5 stars i.e. of the highest quality. Ah, I guess that makes sense.

bullshit... 1999: the new master is the best album of prince's career.

you have kirky j, tony m, and larry graham all on the same cd! what else could you possibly ask for? well, except replacing rosario dawson with tina graham... that would've been sweet! rolleyes

No, I equate best with quality. By quality, it gets 5 stars. By my own personal taste, it would get 4.

I have to agree with a bunch of you, it isn't all that great. While it may be his best album since SOTT, that is a sad statement... according to you, he hasn't come out with ANYTHING in the last 15 years that compares to a mediocre jazz fusion album! Damn. There are a few good tracks on TRC, but to say it is his best in a decade and a half? Wow. Prince should retire if that is the case.

TRC gets 2 stars out of 5. A classic? Nope.

Overall, good effort Prince. Not great.

The instrumentation is great but, honestly, I find the whole work to be a big bore, imo. I gave it a spin just a couple of nights ago to give it another chance and ... nada.

I'd choose Rave (Special Edition) over TRC any day.

I also count it as one of his very very best but somehow
there is something in my system that doesn't allow me to
pick any album over Parade or Sign or Lovesexy.

I don't know what it is. Some indefinite voice in the back
of my mind that says "blaspheme against the trinity and u
shall be struck by lightning next time u take ur fucking
dog for a walk mothafucka".

So I'll just say TRC is a brilliant album.

Co-sign, only replace Parade and Lovesexy with 1999 and Purple Rain...

Oh, hell, keep Lovesexy in there, too...

P.S: by saying TRC is my favorite album I not necessarily mean it is his best or most innovative album. It's just the one I've been enjoying most since it came out...

I find it very bizarre that anyone could put TRC amongst Prince's best albums. I mean, if you're into that type of music, then I guess I can understand the attraction, but to put it over 1999, Purple Rain, Parade, SOTT, etc. well that's sheer madness. TRC is in my opinion, a complete piece of foulness that should have been erased.

You're an idiot.

You're entitled to your opinion on TRC, sure. But you're still a bloody idiot. It's one of his best albums. You couldn't approach the funk on "The Work" or the pure emotion on "Last December" on the funkingest day of your life if you had an electrified funking machine!

If you honestly believe that Prince was just "fucking with fams" with this brilliant piece of music, then someone's evidently been fucking with your Kool-Aid.

TRC is a good album. Not his best ever - but then I don't know I could easily say that any of his albums are THE best ever. I am still waiting for a Prince album I can listen to all the way through apart from Purple Rain.

Wow. Really? You don't listen to "Parade" all the way through? Or "SOTT"? Or... anything since "Purple Rain"? Interesting.

Funnily enough, even with that annoying fucking voiceover, I found "TRC" to be the first Prince album in several years that I listened to all the way through. I've heard many folks here claim the opposite about it, but I find the whole experience really rewarding.

I get the feeling we'll never again have a Prince album that we can listen to all the way through like the good ol days. Some people feel TRC is just as good as the early masterpieces rolleyes Well, to each his own. I'll save my money.

I actually tried to listen to TRC straight through when I downloaded them, but I just started getting sick. I made a few attempts, but then gave up and deleted them.

That's for sure. There's not one song on there I can listen to, not one. I never thought the day would come.
