I just relistened to EMANCIPATION and noticed... ... that it isn't that good. Too many long jams and unfocused grooves. It's odd that I remembered this being some sort of huge statement at the time but time has not been kind to it.
What do you think? A good 2 CD set or maybe even an amazing 1 CD set (with some cool b-sides). I wonder if we'll look back on his stuff now and feel the same way? Sort of let down. I think Emancipation is great the way it is... I've tried cutting it down myself and can't do it, too many good tracks for a single disc. | |

I agree there are too many good songs to cut it to one disc, Id rather have everything and make my own decisions about what i do and dont like.
Emancipation suffers from glossy, tacky production values. Prince lost his grit in the mid 90's. Even the gold exdperience sounded too over produced to my ears. | |

I think 'Emancipation' would have made a stunning 2-CD set.Get rid of the four remakes and crap songs like "La Da Da","We Gets Up",etc,and you would have one of his best albums of the 90s. | |
