As for Prince and easy listening jazz I was worried about that too when I first heard TRC and X... but the music is more dynamic than that. The similarity is simply in the instruments employed. When has Prince ever stayed with one genre anyway? As for moments of Prince being funky, play Rock Hard in a Funky Place, Controversy, 777-9311, Nasty Girl, Everlasting Now, Erotic City, America, etc. But the key is to not let them know who it is.
