Here's my take

Whenever I read a new book about Prince (the latest being POSSESSED, ofcourse) it always ends with an expression of hope that he will begin anew or that he will recharge his creativity or that a rebirth may come.

Bollocks. Look, the piss poor years of the 90's didn't even serve to damage Prince's career. It's just the way things went. The music was no worse than the 80's - just people's reaction to it was.

The sooner people realize (and I think Prince genuinely has realized) that he is on a natural course that will take him to elder statesman - the better.

So, stop all this nonsense about 'coming back' to hit the charts or whatever.

If you're gonna stick with Prince then just put up with all the jazz ponderings and elementary philosophy. Because you're gonna get more.

As Nelson George oh, so perfectly put it once: back then "Prince's ideas jived with popular culture"---his ideas ain't jivin' with pop culture right now...and probably never will again, so be it.
