I wonder if Prince did this on purpose. He is very good at outing people. Even back in the day he was outing homophobes. That is one smart black man [This message was edited Fri May 23 13:45:10 PDT 2003 by lovebizzare] ~KiKi

Ok the piont is this:
some people dont think in racial terms with superstars yet they hypocritcally do in real life and with everyday people...plainly they will call everyday people a mayriad of names and label them , stereotype them etc then when their star says something they dont agree with etc they become just like everyday people in the fact they are not above being called racial slurs as they thought of them before etc the slap you back to africa comment was a quote by someone who is showing his ass and his true feelings which shows some of tis and how it can move across to the real world get it?got it?good "Climb in my fur."

hmm...i didn't read the post where this guy said the "slap you back to africa" thing...but of course that comment is ridiculous.
there's a really fine line between joking and -ism (racism, sexism, whateverism). i know that as a gay man i make MANY jokes that even 5 years ago i myself would have been horribly offended by. generally, it's not considered "okay" to make any of these jokes unless you're part of whatever group you are making fun of - and that makes sense to me. therefore, i feel free to make polish jokes, italian jokes, fag jokes, and nerd jokes. i am all of those things, and my sense of humor is just part of me - i can't explain it more than that, it just is. this whole racism thing that has come up lately...well, i don't know. i personally can't imagine how one could be really into prince's music and be racist...but then, *i* can't understand how one can listen to prince and be homophobic, and if i've learned ANYthing over the last couple months, it's that the vocal majority of prince fans on this site and ESPECIALLY the club seem to be at least as homophobic as the rest of society, if not more so. rdhull...i posted some comments on one of the threads about the new so-called "lyrics" prince posted...and then i stopped, b/c it seemed that b/c i was saying that i thought prince's lyrics were rather juvenile, ill-informed and divisive, people were pegging me as a "racist". i assure you, i'm not. how do y'all feel about homosexuality? i don't mean to jock your thread, but i wanted to post to let you know that...well, to let you know that i agree with you in that there are many people who although they're okay with black celebrities, when it comes down to it, they're racist in everyday life. i don't understand that type of thing. i support artists and art that i feel corresponds with my beliefs...for example, i loved guns 'n roses when i was a kid, but in 7th grade or whatever when "g 'n r lies" came out and it had that lyric about "police and niggers" and "immigrants and faggots", i was sickened, and stopped listening to the music. i'm at a point now where i'm not sure what to do...i mean, i don't think i could stop listening to prince music even if i really tried - in fact i'm pretty sure i COULDN'T... but i don't want to support someone who preaches intolerance and homophobia. i know that's something that nobody cares about, but to me it's a huge deal. prince and his music were instrumental when i was an effeminate, skinny, weird kid who sucked at sports...it made me feel like there WAS a place where i fit in. now? i don't know. i DO know that i'm definitely not wanted. So don't let anybody run you off. For the record I can do without the talk about the Moors and Abraham Lincoln from Prince. He lacks the understanding and wisdom with which to dispense this knowledge such that it comes off offensive and even angry. That being said, he's the artist and it's his right to say whatever he likes, however he chooses. If you're not down with it, it's your right to leave.

I can respect that. For the record I can do without the talk about the Moors and Abraham Lincoln from Prince. He lacks the understanding and wisdom with which to dispense this knowledge such that it comes off offensive and even angry.
Again, I can get with that. Prince is certainly no scholar, and is apt to misconstrue history. While he may be in left field, he's in the ballpark. That being said, he's the artist and it's his right to say whatever he likes, however he chooses. If you're not down with it, it's your right to leave.

Slap you back to africa or where ever you think you from Who the fuck are you? Prince's org bodygaurd? or his gay lover n room 21? Don't come at me like that; Prince fag boy As you see, not only was this blantly racist, but homophobic as well, the same thing that he, amoung others acuses Prince to be. You asked how we felf about homosexuality, well i for one, see absolutely nothing wrong with it. I don't beleive Prince to be homophobic either, but, hey, that's just my opinion. I have known some JWs and while they say they don't 'agree' with it, so to speak, the aren't prejudiced aganist gays either, if that makes any sense. Since that religion preaches love, the JWs I talk to feel that it is wrong to judge/discriminate against gays. So no, all JWs aren't homophobic It's just like, say, you have a friend who's a stripper, and you certainly don't agree with what they're doing, but at the same time you don't treat them differently because of it. Make sense? Don't feel unwanted, they're are plenty of open-minded people here on the org, with the exception of a few. I, personally, am glad that this has happened, since it has outed many people. Prince seems real good at 'outing'. doesn't he? I mean, he's laso outed quite a few homophobes as weel (you know, the people, who, as soon as they hear the nmae Prince, go out and say something about him being gay). I think he's great at outing narrow-minded people, now whether that's his intent or not, I don't know. I just know that he does one hell of a job doing it ~KiKi

Well theres a lot to be said and a lot to just take in with all of this happening lately. My main point of concern was that way before Prince wrote those lyrics that are causing the ruckus, there were several fans who brought out there homophobia and racism, never forget that. Now that Prince is writing things that he does not comment on, some of these things are coming out even more and even more blatantly. Ive argued the case to basically be a devils advocate and against some idiots becasue Prince has not spoken of any stance against anybody. Others have ASSUMED things. Now everyone loved the kevin Sm,ith commentary on Prince from his spoken word dvd..I have it and its hilarious etc..but everyone forgets when Kevin told Prince "people are saying you dont liek white people now"..Prince replies "who and why'd they say that?".. Kevin:"Because of some lyrics on TRC " etc Prince "Oh well, people are going to beleive what they want to believe" Ok some can say thats a cop out...to throw something out there and have a "oh well thats their problem" outlook But from Kevins Smiths commentary it showed that Prince seemed dumbfounded as to why people "were getting the wrong idea" and that he cant control what people think in all homesty. Which to me shows that he actually means no harm or whatever everyones clainming him to be. He is cming onto some new light or his own awareness of his culture, spirtuality or what have you but to think he is being purposefully or even closemindedly against certain groups etc is soetimes silly. Im sure there are whiote or green or blue people still on his staff etc, as part of his touring company etc. Now with that said, Princes beliefs , ways of living or doing his business has come under fire with great zeal to humiliate, make fun if etc. Some of it warranted and some not. Now that his lyrics are shwoing someting in his own awareness and beliefs the audience is now becoming what they claim he is at times..look how easy it is for some folks to cal someone a faggot etc, show soem of their racial views that arent to kopesetic(sp?). This is what most people are fighting and arguing about, not Princes lyrics etc... Im not sure if youre the one whos also running around conmstantly degrading the npgmc as if nobody knows the stipulations over there anyways. It aint like people are blind..they can see the atmosphere and what that entails etc..same thing happens here believe me..and this place was once known as an asskissers playground too ya know and still is in some parts etc...but lets say Bowie or some other artist that you were into played by the same rules. Would you really run around like chuicken little? Now if you feel that prince is actually excluding you then theres nothing that can be done about that. You feel how you feel. Until Prince blatantly comes out and says "no whites and no lesbians and no whatever" then I refuse to beleive such nonsense. If you went to last years concerts you can see how he interacted with all kinds of people etc. Hell last I heard he went to Europe not Africa to play. It all boils down to Uptown is boolshet..he tried maybe harder than its members, us , the audience. And I will say this on my life or god strike me down, I have no beef with anyone, any race, any religion (well almost hehe) or any lifestyle etc. ..but I see a lot of other people who do, and who would have a problem with my race etc and many of them are the ones who are doing all the hollering about prince and his supposed closed mind. I do have a problem with ignorance though and so far I have not seen Prince display it by simply doing what he is doing however heavy handed he gets accused of doing, then some of tose who are in the so called fall-out. Blue knows he better not leave me...I WILL NOT BE IGNORED BLUE...Anyway, I have posted before about my questions about some of the things Prince says in his songs, Avalanche, Family Name, etc., because I didn't understand what the hell he was talking about. The lyrics to the songs kinda bothered me and to a cetain extent, they still do and I'm black. I have also pondered, like you, why he hasn't made some formal statement about this controversy swirling about. I don't believe Prince is racist. If I did, I would be gone. No boycott posts or I 'm selling my shit posts and no trying to convince others to come with me posts. I hope you don't go anywhere. Maybe one day, we can get our questions answered. some people dont think in racial terms with superstars yet they hypocritcally do in real life and with everyday people...plainly they will call everyday people a mayriad of names and label them , stereotype them etc then when their star says something they dont agree with etc they become just like everyday people in the fact they are not above being called racial slurs as they thought of them before etc the slap you back to africa comment was a quote by someone who is showing his ass and his true feelings which shows some of tis and how it can move across to the real world get it?got it?good Sort of like in Do the Right Thing were that Italian dude said Prince wasn't like the rest of the niggers. Great scene with Spike Lee. "fuck you, fuck you're fuckin' pizza, and fuck frank sinatra" "fuck you and michale jackson" classic ~KiKi

but i don't want to support someone who preaches intolerance and homophobia. i know that's something that nobody cares about, but to me it's a huge deal. prince and his music were instrumental when i was an effeminate, skinny, weird kid who sucked at sports...it made me feel like there WAS a place where i fit in. now? i don't know. i DO know that i'm definitely not wanted. ...awright. blueangel, lemme share sumfin with u; my mom's side of the family sorta treats me...well, odd, 2 say the least. i've always been somewhat of the black sheep of my family: * they question how many black friends i have (i get along with everybody, no matter what color someone is) * they always wonder why i never wear shit like fubu and whatever other 'urban'-type fashions (i'm sorta punky-retro when it comes 2 dress) * they say i 'talk white' or 'sound white', which is really super-funny. i'm a very intelligent young woman, been readin since the age of 2, been able 2 read/spell on a college level since i wuz very young. * i haven't been in trouble with the law, i'm still a virgin, and i stay outta other people's business. my mom's folks are proud of me 4 all that, but still i feel as if they kinna jealous of me 4 those reasons...i have several family members who've been in trouble with the law, have a few female family members who are about the same age as me and had kids when they were young, and th' folks seem 2 worry about everybody's business under the sun except their own. that, and they're racist as well. i grew up hearin 'em refer 2 white folks as (pardon my french) 'peckerwoods' and 'honkies' and stoopid shit like that. i distance myself from all that bullshit they say and do. my mother and father raised me 2 have respect and tolerance 4 everyone, even if they disrespect u. 'don't stoop 2 their level!' anyhoo, tho' i've been diggin prince 4 only a short time (comin up on...oh, 8 years now), the brotha's helped me a great deal with comin 2 realize who i am and that it's al-fuckin-right 2 be quirky. don't be afraid, letcha freak flag fly, all that. i agree with u, nowadays it's sorta odd 2 be a prince freek since he's bein...i dunno, scholarly or what-not. the new lyrix everybody's been trippin about? no 'isms' 2 be found in 'em. the lyrix scream 'schoolhouse rock' more than 'scholar' 2 me, imho. fer fuck's sake, he's a high school graduate, just like i am!!! not a damned thing in the world wrong with that, but there ain't a damned thing wrong with readin up on stuff and gettin your brain food on as well. thing is, if u gonna try 2 get deep on folks with music and history...i dunno. i don't wanna say that the brotha should take his booty 2 college or sumfin, take a course or two, but still...wordage is key. then again, some folks interpret art a bit mo' different than others. who knows? but anyway, blueangel, my advice 2 u is this: follow yo instincts. don't listen 2 all these cats runnin around, goin ballistic over lyrical content and whatever. do what u feel is right. i'm not sure if u got turned on 2 prince on your own or somebody else turned u on 2 'im, but remember this: it's all up 2 u. hope u understand me, sorry this is so ultra-long... phew, mine!!!

i've heard you say this in other threads, and i think it's the saddest thing i've ever heard. you really believe this, and somehow think that's okay? man, i don't know. yeah i'm the same blueangel on the club, the one that PP9 keeps censoring. what did i say on there that you thought was against the "stipulations" anyway? and why do you bring bowie into this? i never mentioned him. it's not b/c you associate him with fags, is it? i hope not, but i wonder. i think you're a cool guy, and i REALLY dig a lot of what you write about prince's music. so you really think uptown was all bullshit? so what was it then? he only sang "am i black or white, am i straight or gay?" to sell records? (yes i know that was on the next album!! i'm just using that lyric as an example) - because if so, then i think that makes it even worse for me...b/c that's purposefully duplicitous. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.
