I think "Lovesexy" is heavily overrated. The Black Album is much more fun to me and is the winner in my book. Best would have been if they were combined into a double album. A tale of black versus white... ("Dance On" edit...) [This message was edited Wed May 21 12:47:28 PDT 2003 by funkaholic1972] RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I happen to agree with this one. I like Lovesexy but The Black Album is a blast of an album. Sorry to all you Lovesexy lovers...but The Black Album is the better of the two.

you have to think to get the lovesexy's styles like sound vegetables, but black album is like sound candy. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

They're both great albums, but he could've left Ana Stecia in the vault.

Lovesexy is...okay
Black Album..."blast of an album" indeed! HIGHLY underrated - one of his best, I think

Lovesexy sounds like Prince put his heart and soul into it. That's enough for me. The only song I listen to on the Black Album is Cindy C.

"Rock hard in a funky place" alone beats the whole Lovesexy album, IMO... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Their two totally different albums to me and can't be compared. Lovesexy's got the spiritual/love vibe going on while the Black Album is more on the funk side. They both ROCK in my book "You can be the President, I'd rather be the Pope"

The Black Album sounds better to me every time I listen to it. To be honest, I used to hate this album. The only thing I could listen to was 2 Nigs (no joke). Now, I could put this album on repeat all day if I wanted.
Lovesexy seems to age slightly every listen, and it ain't turning into no wine. I still like it though. "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring faith. If we crave some cosmic purpose, then let us find ourselves a worthy goal" - Carl Sagan

No one can say with any absolute certainty which is the "better" album. I happen to think the albums are linked. As I understand it, The Black Album a torrid response to a lot of negative energy P was feeling from certain circles that his "funk was half-assed" and he was losing his "soul." It was fun, it was funky, it was unpredictable and decidedly dark. The album closes with the incendiary "Rock Hard In A Funky Place," which I believe may very well be The Perfect Prince Song.
Yet as the legend has it, Prince felt the urge to exorcise that negative energy through a spiritual awakening. The result? One of the greatest Prince LPs ever, "Lovesexy." It was as fun as The Black Album, but appealed to the better angels of the listener's nature. Matching the intensity of the Black Album song for song, its message of positivity rings clear. There seems to be a Lovesexy backlash, for whatever reason, and to each his own. But I do think the LP is better than Black, although they are in many ways connected. lovesexy is my favorite prince album. i like the black album a lot but i need to be in the mood to hear it; it doesn't just pop into my mind. lovesexy, on the other hand, has just become a part of my subconcious! the title track, anna stesia, :eye: know, dance on...those are incredible songs! i think comparing them as far as styles go is impossible. they have different meanings and personalities...though i suppose it is fair to say that without the black album there would be no lovesexy. i think that there is a lot of great funk on the black album but it does seem a bit under par for prince...kinda like candied funk. lovesexy has feeling behind it and i think the black album is lacking that.

DEFINATELY! Shame it will never happen. They are brother and sister - I dont think that u can get the bigger picture without the other. A double-pack set - God...that would SO work. But even if they DO get re-mastered, it wont happen. However, they both sit lovely next 2 each other in MY collection!

Only 2 songs from Lovesexy is worth listening:
Alphabet St. When 2 R In Love The remix version of Glam Slam is better than the album version. But to tell you the truth, Lovesexy is one of Prince's worst album in his career. The Black Album was a better choice of an album (excluding Dead On It) & sounds more cutting-edge on cassette than CD. Le Grind is the better song on the album.
