Advantages John Blackwell:
Blazin' Speed and Power Doesn't Sound Synthesized Disadvantages John Blackwell: Rhythm might be off by a micro-fraction every now and then Drums and equipment will wear out after repeated use Drumsticks break Advantages Linn: Scientifically accurate rhythm to the billionth of a second Could never get tired (say, if Prince wanted to play a 68 hour jam) Disadvantages Linn: Synthesized Totally retro Fake sounding Unimpressive to look at on stage Verdict: FUCK! Why are we even having this debate. Real is always better. I'd prefer fucking Kirk Johnson over the Linn. Nothing against the Linn though, I couldn't imagine say... LRC without the Linn. AKAI MPC series are the direct shoot-offs of the Linn Drum Machines.
Drum Machines can work live at a rave. But a regular live show? I perfer Sheila E.

I say keep the Linn in the 80's. It worked great for that time period..but I do miss that "kuh klack" sound. Bring only that part back. But then again the m,usic he does today doesn't fit that Kuh sound..his sound is more organic now, less synth, more organic instruments
On a side note the live drumming from back then sounded great such as the ones on Lady Cab Driver "Climb in my fur."

NO ONE COMPARES TO MICHAEL BLAND OR SHEILA E I STILL DON'T KNOW WHO I PREFER.
LINN DRUM FOLLOWS BLACKWELL THEN BOBBY Z BUT ABSOLUTELY NO KIRKY J...NEVER! Luminous beings are we...not this crude matter.
Is this 2morrow or just the END of time? The Funk will always b with u "I've got a face, not just my race, Bang Bang I've got you babe!"

Dont be silly. A computer can never have the amount of musicality of a human brain. [This message was edited Thu May 22 8:14:44 PDT 2003 by cloud9mission]

[This message was edited Thu May 22 8:14:44 PDT 2003 by cloud9mission] Don't misunderstand me, I totally love JB's drumming and live drumming in general. But I happen to love the Linn sound a lot too. If programmed with fantasy, drummachines can kick some serious ass, if you ask me... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
