Prince has earned the right and freedom to write whatever the hell he likes with his music. Do you want him to retread the same ground over and over for the rest of his artistic life?
Whatever youre opinion on the factual content of the lyrics, you cant deny their effect. Its engaged people of different ethinicities and backgrounds in debate, exposing them to things that they may not have heard before. I personally believe that Prince only ever intends to promote increased understanding, tolerance and harmony among people(s). As for Blackcat talking about accepting blames and taking credit, thats bullshit. I accept no blames nor take any credit. Its history, how you choose to interpret it will depend on the point of view you WANT to take. If you go back far enough we all originate from Africa anyway so universally speaking Princes words have no bearing on race issues today. Race problems are born out of ignorance and lack of education, not out of inherent divisions between races. To expect people today to accept responsibility for history is ludicrous. We can only learn from what went on in the past, thats it...nuff said. | |
