Prince's Assets programme-Did Alex Hahn claim that Prince has only about a fanbase 0f 1'000?! Did I hear and remember this right? If so, where did he/U get those figures from?!

Thanx exposition, but either way, where the hell did he get that figure from?!

Just guess-work I suppose. I know it's not terribly scientific, but sounds about right to me. I got the impression that he meant ACTIVE fans.

He actually referred to is as "Prince probably has a hardcore fanbase of around 100,000" ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

What's an ACTIVE fan? Yeah?! One who follows him always and buys all the music he puts out at a guess.

What's an ACTIVE fan? Yeah?! taking steps to follow what music he is releasing purchasing his music buying a concert ticket joining the music club etc.. as distinct from someone who takes a passive interest e.g. hears a song on the radio (probably an oldie such as 'When Doves Cry' or 'Purple Rain') and says 'I like Prince's music, pity he doesn't record anymore' or 'I saw that 'Rainbow Children' album in the record store the other day, is it worth getting? - I really liked 'Diamonds and Pearls' when I saw him tour' ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. By 'active' I mean just that. Somebody who doesn't just pop on the odd old cd or video, but who still follows P's career. As pointed out on another post, accurate sales figures for TRC would be helpfull.
Sorry for the vagueness

Sorry for the vagueness "Active" as opposed to "lapsed," then. I see. Thanks.

I don't think 100K is too far off the mark.

I was thinking more around 100, but I'll go for 100k... Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

Well, in the 80's, he had a core fan base of about a million. In the 90's, I'd say it varied b/w 500,000 and one million. Now, it's difficult to say. I do think he does have a fan base of several hundred thousand, but they've bought all the P records they care to buy.
All of this is guesstimating, but heck, from what I hear about Hahn's book, that's ALL he does! Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

100.000 is a number that's been floating around for a while and I think it's quite o.k.
In contrary to Springsteen or Madonna, Prince has lost most (all ?) of his casual consuments. If a new Prince CD is released, you can be sure that most units are purchased by this so-called core fan base. But 100.000 core fans does not mean 100.000 NPGMC members. I consider myself as a core fan (what else can I be if I spend my time in this forum) and I am NOT member of NPGMC (because I don't like the concept and see no benefit for me in it). How man members does the NPGMC really have ? 10.000 ? Maybe only those are the REAL core fans who follow Prince on everything.
