One Night Alone Tour - a few observations I didn't make the last tour but I purchased a copy of his performance in New York.
The piano medley was sublime. Prince alone at the piano playing Purple Rain touched me. Very powerful. Sometimes Princes playing seems to be more inspired when he is covering other peoples songs. The crowd gets more excited when the band covers Sing A Simple Song than a lot of The Rainbow Children tracks. Why is this? Princes guitar playing during the Santana medley is frenzied and sounds a lot more exciting than some of his own playing on his own songs. Anna Stesia and When U Were Mine being notable exceptions. And Rhonda likes to fluff her hair after most songs All in all it's great.

No one's got any thoughts on this? Maybe it's not interesting or my thread isn't very well thought out. Feedback?

in several threads at the time of the tour, i stated that i think many years from now, in prince lore, the ona shows will go down as some of the best. musically and vocally, the 4 shows i saw were dead on fantsastic. that, coupled with be able to attend the soundchecks, made the ona tour something truely special to behold. ------------------------------------------------

Sadly though the live album that's supposed to document this tour is such a weird stale piece of work. The European performances and shows were -for the most- so much more powerful and inspired. It progressed as he took it to Asia as well. Stuff like the European soundchecks and aftershows are amongst his best ever live performances, rivaling Small Club all the way. It's so typical once again that there should be something for the 'mass' audience, which is a very faint whisper of what was actually going on. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
