Backwards Messages I wonder what Prince's obsession with reversing songs, sounds, or speech in his music stems from? Personally, I think it may have something to do the the psychedelica of the 1960s (Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Beatles, etc.) It's just interesting that a lot of his music that has very prolific or interesting lyrics are all backwards (God, Girl, the end of Darling Nikki, Shortberry Strawcake, etc.) ...as if he doesn't want us to hear them. Or maybe it's the other way around, that we would be so intrigued by them we would find any means to hear it. I dunno.  | |

It was Princes way of doing rock and becoming rock. Just like the rockvamp coda at the end of Lets Go Crazy ( ala Van Halen 1sdt album and others using that riff licks section) he went for all rock at that time ideals. The backwards masking was buig again in th e early 80's ( religious shows demonizing music like eagles lol etc because of their album covers, backwards masking etc). Prince pulled out all the stops, girls in the band but more than just backup singers etc like rock groups would have black singers onstage etc. Another twist was having the backswards masking saying about God and the second coming instead of supposed evil devil subjects like murder, turn me on deadman etc lol.See the Lets Go Crazy image of him bent over backlit with the devils fingers peace sign from the audience too etc. PR project was the MOST calculated move ever and it worked

Well, I've always been intrigued by hearing songs backwards. In fact, I made it a hobby of mine before I even became a big enough fan of Prince to know that he was caught up on backwards stuff too.
