Come...

I'm sure this piece of work has been broken down many times in the forum...but I'm fairly new to it. What are your thoughts are this album? music

And who the hell is that he is talking to on "Orgasm"? Sounds like Mayte, but I'd truly have no idea if that is correct...

("Letitgo" is my favorite cut on this album, at least for the time being...I mean DAYUM! I love that song) fro

The album is great, alongside The Gold Experience and Chaos And Disorder. Of these three I guess I like TGE best, followed by Come.

The song Come is weak, compared to the first recording.
Orgasm has Vanity moaning over it, an outtake from Vibrator.

Best on come are Dark and Letitgo. And Space.
And Race is fun too.
And Papa is beautiful.

Thanx, Idais. Welcome to the org. And let's hope The Dawn, n'est pas?

I have a comment on the song Come itself. I think the man is asking us to go where he is going. Spirit's calling and all that. When taken out of a corporeal context, and put into an ethereal one, Prince starts making more sense.

Do excuse my pretentiousness, and as was said in the song "What I Am":

Chuck me into shallow waters, before I get too deep!

I'm sorry to sound so ill-informed, but there was an original recording of "Come"?

And thank you for clearing up who the mystery woman on "Orgasm" is...

I agree with your favorites from the album...nod

Indeed.
Prince payed it in clubs during his tour previous releasing the album. The first version was a bit empty, hollow even, but I liked it better than the R&Bed version he put on the album.
Often Prince will record a song and then tinker with it. Often, the first version is way better than the second.

Not pretentious at all IMO...I happen to agree with you, andyf...as with just about all of his music, there is double, sometimes triple meanings and messages in Prince's songs...the lyrics are often written to affect the listener in a personal way...the message the listener gets from the song is a direct a reflection on the listeners own character...I guess that would mean there are millions of messages in Prince's songs LOL it seems sometimes that everyone gets a different idea from his lyrics

"Come" is a good example...upon first listening to it, I admit, I DID instantly think sex...but as you pointed out...the lyrics also have a more "ethereal" meaning that makes the tune that much more enjoyable for me...

go ahead and chuck me into the deep waters...i don't mind drowning!! (i like that song too ) hug

And thank you for the welcome!! kiss2 Eventhough I've been here for awhile...I just don't post that often

Reminds of an interview with either NME or Q at the time (my memory's not that good!!) when they were commenting to Prince about how overtly sexual the song "Come" is.

Prince's reply was basically that the opinion was just their own take on the song. The interviewer said how could it mean anything else. Prince started saying that it could be "come here, come to what, come around my way, come on a spiritual journey", to which the interviewer replied "Oh, COME on!".

Anyways, it is a re-affirmation on the amount of meanings that are blended in to most Prince tracks.

Personally, I love the Come album, bar Orgasm. Papa is hauntingly brilliant!

Is that the same version that we get a snippet of on The Beautiful Experience vid? COz that was fucking ace!!

More of a brooding dance groove to it, with a lovely synth (or is it a 303 - sounds like it!) line bubbling away underneath. I want to hear THAT version in full!

Exactly Exactly Mindflux...

Prince pretty much sums it up right there...that is often the case with his music...he has always been made to have an overtly sexual image (not to say he hasn't directly earned that in the past, but he also earned it indirectly, by that I mean, the press and also the majority of people who hear his lyrics get a very sexual connotation from them, when who knows if Prince himself did when creating the music)

Cool Mindflux, thanx a million...nod

TheJoker

"COME" is one of my favourite albums in so far as the 'feel' of it.

That said, "Come" & "Space" are, imho, some of his great tracks. Maybe they aren't Grammy-winning tunes, but still great pieces of work.

I'd recommend buying this album if you are the kind of person who likes to use their imagination, likes sex, and a whole lot o' Prince.

Granted, only 10 tracks (don't know if Orgasm really qualifies as a song), but I'd say worth it.

Come...explore*

I also love that version on the Beautiful Experience

'this is the dawning of a spiritual revolution'

The live version at the DNA aftershow is excellent - cool the way he has the crowd chanting 'COME', he also adds a line which is not in the studio versions something like...

'why dont ya wrap your legs around my neck for a while and see if I can make ya smile' !

IMO "Come" is a great album.
I really like the way it is sequenced and the way it is dark in terms of sounds and contents (for some reason, I think "Come" is like P's "Black Album" of 90's).
