Yeah, I loved Acid House too, even if I was far too young to go clubbing in those days. Batman's always been one of my favourite albums for that reason, the whole album is filled with club beats that were so in tune with the zeitgeist ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why, oh why, weren't The Dream Factory sessions and the initial Crystal Ball project ever released?

I've never understood why people don't seem to like the 'Prince' album more.
I mean, sure it doesn't have the sonix experimentation of 1999 or Parade. Or the breadth of SOTT Or the funk of Dirty Mind But as an attempt at a great commercial pop album, I think it wipes the floor with D&P or Rave or the Gold experience. What do you think? ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yo Lammas, how you doing bro? From what I know, Dream Factory morphed into Crystal Ball, which wasn't released because it was deemed too difficult to sell. Hence, the more commercially focused Sign 'O' The Times. But I think you already knew that.

I think the Prince album absolutely rocks. It's an excellent example of focused, commercial hit writing with underlying Prince soul. I think the difference between this and The Gold Experience is that Gold was an attempt to write classicly structured songs again, not necessarily hits. With Rave, Prince wanted hits but to me the songs lacked Prince's musical motivation, an essential ingredient for whenever Prince wants to get the public to hear any of his work. This is the complete opposite of what happened with Diamonds & Pearls.

And "Sexy Dancer" is his most underrated funk song. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Great idea Anji. I'll be back once I have something interesting to post here. The only thing that has been on my mind lately is buying a copy of UTCM. I wish there was a place I could go to pick it up, but it looks like my best bet is to purchase it over the Internet. I've seen some used copies for as low as $5.99. I think this sudden obsession was triggered from my listening to Parade so much lately and remembering how cool I thought the ending credits/video was for "Mountains" when I was a lil girl.
Also, I wish I could catch a glimpse of Prince in the NPGMC crib. Supposedly, he's been seen tying up his shoes, listening to headphones, playing instruments...shoot, for all I know he might have made Kool-Aid in the kitchen for everyone and I missed it... See, I told you I had nothing interesting to contribute yet...maybe later. Again...great idea and

Hello Idais, I don't believe we've meet before.

Needn't necessarily be interesting or inspiring; your post above was perfect. Love that Moutains video too, Prince looks really cool in it. :
