Anyone know any Ex-Prince fans?

What did they get into after they finished listening to Prince?

I've often wondered that as each subsequent album after 1984 sold less.If a person was into the whole Prince, The Time, Sheila E era, what the hell do they listen to now?

and what turned them off Prince?

any stories?

Yeah, my parents. Unfortunatly after I got in2 them from listening 2 their copy of Sign 'o' the Times, they've been ready 2 take the piss. Particulary after the name change scenario where my Dad often called him 'The Artist formerly known as being quite good'. But what does he know? He likes those irritating chill out albums rolleyes

Ahh, I know plenty of those. They're not really ex-fans, though, they just haven't been freed from the Matrix yet. lol If it hasn't been all over MTV and pop radio (which Prince hasn't since prince ) then they're not aware of it.

Anxiety

My mom used to go insane for Prince, but I think she just found him too odd sometime around Lovesexy, and gave up on him altogether when the symbol thing happened.

most people i know that were into prince really stopped following because it became to much of an effort... now the only thing they hear about prince is that he had his ass sticking out of his pants at the mtv video music awards..
i think the lack of accessability to prince and a name change, alianated a lot of people... people like there pop stars to be dumb and easy to follow...

but purple rain really was a phenomenon... you couldnt expect to keep all those loosers interested that long anyway... that kind of success i think of as a wave that keeps moving.. never stays in the same place.. with the same artist... now its 50 cent and eminem surfing that bitch till someone snakes there asss off...

My friend who got me into Prince music hates him now. He was a real collecter, had everything released officially in the UK up untill Come, various imports and an extensive bootleg collection.

He stopped listening about the name change time, he got really fed up with the stupidity and thought Prince was a dick. Even to this day, he is not interested in any of the new stuff. Occasionally I take something for him to listen to and he will flick through about 5 seconds of each track and be unimpressed.

Not entirely sure what he listens to now.
RIP sad

Most of my friends are not into Prince anymore. If I mention him, they always say something like "Oh,I loved his 80s stuff" or "I liked him during the Purple Rain days",blah blah blah.I get so sick of people saying that!

I know lots of ex-Prince fans. Most of them got turned off after the name change. I have a friend who was a bigger Prince fan than me and she got turned off after listening to TRC.

I considered myself an ex-Prince fan,from about 95-2002.
But,then for some reason,I pulled out my SOTT CD at the beginning of this year and "re-discovered" him or put him back in my mind,whatever...
Then,I became a member of the org, pulled out Lovesexy,1999,GB,Hits/B-Sides,Parade and listened to them constantly, and now I'm collecting stuff from associated artists & bootlegs.
So,I decided to become a fan again..of course,I guess I always knew I would go back to him sooner or later, otherwise,I would have gotten rid of SOTT,Lovesexy, etc. smile

Well, yeah, I know some, a couple of girls I went to summer camp with. It's the strangest thing, they hate Prince but still love Sheila E., go figure

I think it was the whole symbol thing that turned one of them off

The other, well, she seems to feel that anything and everthing since 1989 sucks.
After the whole Tony M./rap thing, you really can't blame her

I know PLENTY of ex-Madonna fans, though

First of all I should say that true hardcore Prince fans will always be a fan… but there are many people that liked Prince such as the couple I know that went to see him in concert during the Lovesexy tour in Paris, that simply did not follow after the eighties. Last time I spoket to them, they listened to Macy Grey, and some Jazz, piano melodies, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, REM...

The world is full of many ex-Prince fans. Compare record sales from the 80's to the 90's and today. Then look at all the bonehead moves and shitty music he's made over the past decade. Seems the equation fits.

Funny the name change lost him so many fans.I just found it amusing as i'm sure it was intended to be.

'Slave' scrawled on his face was a bit stupid though.Even i nearly packed it in then.
