Why is Prince so interesting 2 a 4 yr old Mind ? Just the other day I was going through my Prince video collection and found some tapes I thought I lost along time ago, like when Prince performed on the vh1 fashion awards and when he got the specail achievement awards on the american music awards and I've notice that my 4 yr old cousin was more in2 the videos then I was, it was like she was totally spaced out and amazed at this little man performing on tv... maybe Prince got some kind of connection with kids, maybe Prince speaks to kids in a different langauge with his music or something, but I always wondered what made him so interesting to a child's mind that them in awe like that, cuz I was about 4 or 5 yrs old when I became a fan also and been possed every since then...
Maybe it's just one of those mysteries, I don't know [This message was edited Sun May 11 18:01:36 PDT 2003 by Mizzunderstood]

I think it's the same reason why little kids love a lot of the oldies stuff - like James Brown for instance. Kids may have never heard a James Brown song before. But play a James Brown song and they act like it's the hottest thing out now.
As far as Prince is concerned, I think there's just something special and unique about the music that the kids respond to. A child doesn't listen to or see Prince through the same "filters" that many other adults see Prince through. Children at that age haven't yet been taught to hate or dislike someone else because he or she may be different. So instead, the kids just enjoy the music for what it is and without any preconceived notions or expectations. That's my $0.02 worth... since you asked. You are so right about JB, kids respond to his stuff very well, before MJ was known as a 'creep' he used to be much loved by the kiddies as well... I remember my mother saying P was a perv way back when I was akid and he was on T V, she said he wrote a song about a woman's "parts", I'm not sure which one she was referring to! Personally . When you're a child, every experience is a new experience. Children love to be exposed to something new that is different from things they've known before. Somewhere along the way, as you age, most people get to where they're not interested in new things and would rather stay in a comfort zone. Kids are different in that way, they are more open to new things.

Thanks for the thread, Mizzunderstood Your title reminds me of Bob Marley, who said he writes his lyrics so a child can understand them. Sometimes this is harder to do than to write overly complex, convoluted prose, no? Cheers --------
