i came across the answer to this during a history module at school.
in ancient Dogon culture they found a way to harvest a hybrid of a banana and a passion fruit, altho this was apparently delicious it grew in very difficult conditions and often hard to reach places. later in thier culture when this art had been lost it became legend and when a boy came of age he was sent out to search for the purple banana, which is how the name of the fruit translated, finding this fruit would mean the elders of the village would furnish the boy with all the knowlegde and secrets of thier culture. so the purple banana is a symbol of learning the secrets of society more info on this tradition can be found at www.dogontraditions.com If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it! |
