the omnibus special is a bbc documentary from 1990 i think, and about 50 mins long. it does include some footage from the 23 min prince of paisley park documentary which is supposedly what was released from an aborted long form documentary as a kinda prince version of truth or dare/in bed with madonna the 23 mins prince of paisley park documentary was a download on npgmc last year

I have the Omnibus thing (recorded it when it was shown), but want to know--another thing I taped back them was "Prince--A Musical Portrait". This has Prince in the studio playing bass along to "Partyman" (!), and contributions from George Clinton, Eric Clapton, &c. Is this the thing you're referring to as "Prince Of Paisley Park"? It's about the same length. Has the Partyman video at the end. [This message was edited Sun May 11 6:30:54 PDT 2003 by unremarkable]

As far as I am aware, back in 1989 Albert Magnoli worked on a documentary on Prince. This did not emerge exactly as planned, but a 9 minute documentary called 'Prince, Musical Portrat' was first aired in September 1989. This 9 minute documentary was available last year - January 2002 - for download (as part of edition 12 of NPGMC year 1).
In 1991, the BBC Omnibus team chose to make a documentary on Prince as part of their arts series. It was not (as described above) a 'special' - just part of their series for that year. Prince made available much material which included some or all of the footage which Magnoli was to have used in the original documentary. The programme was first aired in December 1991 entitled 'Prince Rogers Nelson' - about 50-60 minutes in duration In 1992, a TV special entitled 'The Prince of Paisley Park' was made - again with the aborted Magnoli documentary material available for inclusion. Some of this material was used, (but with some alternative interviews to those shot and included in Prince: a Musical Portrait). First aired in September 1992 - about 50 minutes in duration. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

No - the 9 minute doc is "Prince: A Musical Portrait". "Prince of Paisley Park" is about an hour long & aired on Trio & A&E.

Thank you Lange So I guess Omnibus IS indeed different from P of PP then. Same KIND of program but different shots & interviews... NICE!!!

And they got that footage because Prince had been screwing them around for days and they were getting fed up. © Bart Van Hemelen

IIRC The "P of PP" is a re-edit of the BBC program intended for international use. That's also the impression I get from reading descriptions. From what I recall "P of PP" was actually the subtitle of the BBC Omnibus program. --- http://members.aol.com/fr...deos2.html 1991 Prince of Paisley Park (Documentary) Enter into Prince's world at his studio in Paisley Park. CalhounSquare---I'll make it easy for u---
If u have Omnibus special--it's all u need. Anything else will be a portion or excerpt of it. The 9 minute thing is something else all together.
