The Sacrifice Of Victor So what do you think of this song?
I'm never sure wether I like it or don't. Perhaps it's because it's on thát album. But somehow I do like it... Especially the last minute. Perhaps someone could provide some more information about this song, like when it was recorded etc? and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Exactly. I just listened to it for the first time in a long while too. I particularly like those last few lines and the bit before them when there's three different lines of vox running together which then turn into the one vocal of "...I'm gonna keep on walking down this road". and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I always thought this song was a mess. There's a certain point on that album where it lapses into some really unfocused territory...I have to be in the right mood for anything too far beyond "Damn U", I gotta confess...

Indeed, "3 Chains Of Gold" and "Victor" back 2 back is a bit much to stomach at any given time. I don't know, I never really listen to the album at all since it's probably my least fav Prince album. There are enough song on there to make it a nice 8 song album but the rest is just not my taste. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I'm still crazy about this song, always will be. I love Prince's vocals, I love the energy, I love the backing choir. I also like learning that he was epileptic. Well, that's not as good as the rest of it, I guess. The Normal Whores Club

Love this song. Didn't care for it too much when the album came out, but it definitely grew on me. Love the lyrics, his vocal, and like those above, the ending of the song is great -- a perfect end to the "rock opera" that the album purported itself to be. One of my favorites from that album.
Do I remember correctly that he performed it on "The Ryde Divine" TV special? with the "phantom" mask? and the sleeves that went to his knees? http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

The DNA after show version and the Ride Divine version put that song in a whole new light. I never really got into it until I heard it live. I think its the best song played on the ride divine.

Great song.
Wrong album. Like so many other Prince songs the song gains something from a live performance.

Maybe if it was on a different album from 3 Chains I would like it more... not into this one. Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. Can't say I ever got into the live performances. DNA sounds
a bit poor due to the bad soundquality. I have it on some other aftershow boots, like Estandard so I'll give those another listen. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I think TSOV is a great song. Its lyrics are about as clear and autobiographical as Prince gets and, for me, its just in that classic Prince pop-funk vein - the density and complexity of that heavy, deep bassed, rolling rythym reminds me of Lovesexy. It is one of the better constructed songs on the album.
For those who haven't listened to it in a long time, make sure you are going to listen on a system that can dig deep in terms of detail and bass, turn it UP and please turn to the book of Victor! Incidentally, what made me laugh after this album came out, was the amount of people (press included) who took this song very literally and thought he had changed his name to Victor! Asswipes! Even a blatant metaphor is too subtle for some, it seems! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I honestly really like this cd, and I think this is one of the stand-out tracks on it. It's such a layered song, with so much to get into. It's a classic in my book.

i love this song. it is one of my faves on this disc. i actually do like the symbol album a lot but i used to dislike it just as much. "sacrifice" is probably my 2nd favorite song though, believe it or not.

Oh people people people
The GOLD Abbem was the best record of the 90's. NOW, Endorphinemachine, Billyjack Birtch, and this awesome autobiographical song, Sacrifice Of Victor. The song is flawless. This album to ME signalled that P hadn't lost it, this album had STONE JAMS (Endorphine Machine, NOW), it had dirty stripper songs, (319) and to ME, Billy jack Bitch was the closest he'd come to DMSR in a LONG LONG LONG time. I'm sure that fans of Rave and Emancipation will completely disagree with me on this opinion, and that's cool, becuase THEY'RE WRONG! The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Great gospel feel to the song, reminds me of being in church.

The DNA aftershow is a great version of this song - especially as you can actually hear the funky bassline that this song has (it's a bit mixed down on the album version).
The only problem with the DNA boot is the horns are mixed almost out of the mix so you can't really hear them - which is a shame as the horn section was going off this night!!! Mmmm...love the DNA boot "C-O-M-E...now what's that spell?" I sincerely want 2 fuck the taste out of your mouth
