Erotic City all the way!
Nothing wrong with Moonbeams choice of Loveleft, loveright either. It's sparse and funky, almost dirty mindish in nature IMO.

Absolutely!! This is my vote too...so what's the score so far? The score so far? Of the people that mentioned more than one I took the first mentioned song: She's Always In My Hair: 6 17 Days: 5 Erotic City: 3 Shockadelica: 3 HCUDCMA: 2 Lalalahehehe: 2 Love Or Money: 2 Irresistable Bitch: 2 Alexa de Paris: 2 God: 1 Girl: 1 Another Lonely X-Mas: 1 I Love U In Me: 1 Loveleft Loveright: 1 I realise now that an album of 80's b-sides would kick the ass of any of Prince's 90's albums. Pretty sad, ain't it? RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

How surprising!
Not to say that She's Always in My Hair isn't a great song, but I guess there are others that I have always preferred to it. I wonder if these are sentimental votes from people who were around when it was originally released, or from newer fans who are simply recognizing it as a great song?

Now, see, I didn't hear the similarities so much. There was SOME similarities, but the speeded up guitars, reverse snare hit, THAT was what sold me on that song - THAT, and hearing my girlfriend sing "everytime I comb my hair, thoughts of you get in my eyes" - THAT was what woke me up to the brilliance of that song. [This message was edited Tue May 6 15:16:02 PDT 2003 by otan] Don't get it twisted, EC is a much superior song than is WH. But EC is build on the groove of WH without a doubt. And that is something I wasn't used to from P at the time. I was used to people building shit on his grooves. if you go to winmx there is a version of the song that is a combined erotic city with white horse. good mix. the similarities are striking.

My god, I'd have real trouble deciding:
17 Days She's always in my hair Escape Sex How Come U Do't Call Me Anymore Erotic City Hmmm... Now I know I'll be out here on my own on this, but I think it would have to be Escape or Sex. Seriously, i know most people don't dig them but I don;t care! ----------------------------------------------------------------------

There are so many great ones. In some cases, the b-sides are better than the singles they come from and they often came from excellent singles!
I think I have to go with "17 Days". Maybe his best pop song ever (certaintly top 5). They should have been a single. I still hear it on the radio every so often and just crank it up.

This thread brings it all back. Damn, I miss those 'B' side days! Max So do I. How great was it to see a new Prince 12" in the store with an unrecognizable song title on the B side! You would buy the 12" just to hear it. Who cares if I already have Let's Pretend We're Married, I wanna hear what this song Irresistible Bitch sounds like! And from 82-86 it was ALWAYS something great! For me, that Prince period was all about the B sides.
