Dont start with the 'So the track sounds good cause it contains swear words...' that's not what i mean, but it would'nt be as good cause the flavour of what the track was about would be lost...What u guys think...??

I don't think Prince (or any artist for that matter) should ever change the lyrics of a song for any reason. If they truly see their music as art, then they wrote those lyrics for a reason and should never change them. The song was written as Sexy Mutha Fucker and should stay that way. Don't go changing lyrics simply because your values have changed over time. I can see not saying them in any new music but leave the older music alone.

Reminds me of The Doors when Ed Sullivan wanted Jim Morrison to say 'Girl, we couldn't get much better' instead of higher. Jim didn't sell out!

i got lambasted for a thread in which i said it really bothered me that he changed "the cross" into "the christ". they said i only felt that wa because the lyrics were now JW based, which is not why i disliked it. i disliked it because i don't think the artist should tamper with his work after the release of it.

i love the cross, but don't agree with the regular christian beliefs in it either, i just think it is a phenominal song.

co-sign for me too. i'm amazed/appalled by the fact that the same person who wrote 'sexy motherfucka', the same artist who expressed a preferenceed for 'freedom' has done such a complete about-face.

I can't see what the fuss is all about.

If Prince wants to re-record his work, or perform it with different words, different instruments, different musicians, a different arrangement, use different recording equipment, or apply different production values ... then that's his call.

Certainly, people will think in the case of lyric changes, that he is bowdlerising his art, but that's his right. This idea that an artist shouldn't 'tamper with his art' is laughable.

The original works still exist, I can listen to my copy of Sexy MF, or indeed Sexy Mutha, if I choose to do so, and Prince can't stop me.

Similarly, I can't insist Prince performs particular songs in particular ways just because that's the way he originally wrote or recorded them (or that's the way I think they should be performed).

An artist usually doesn't release a song until they feel it has reached 'perfection' so tampering with it is laughable to me. They shouldn't have released it if it wasn't up to their standards.

As far as Prince, I don't agree with his changing lyrics simply because of the person he is now or not performing certain songs because of their 'sexual content'.

All in all, I think they should be done the way they were intended to be done. Cuss words and all.
